VSD 5.8.5 is the version I am using. I am using godaddy.com.
FTP Server domain.com
Username I know
Password I know
WWW blank (seems to be getting closer than anything else I've tried)
I have been trying to upload a page I created with VSD. The page is basically a bunch of buttons with excel spreadsheets linked in. The spreadsheets have data and pictures on them.
When I do the test connection - I get an error at the upload point.
When I try to upload anyways - I get the cannot create a catalog error.
My website is blank.
Last weekend, I was able to create/upload to another site with my friend with no problem, and he has a media player video out there. He uses the godaddy host. I've got the same account type - different domain. We are both using coffeecup - same version.
Any suggestions???
I've been reading a lot of things out here about files and such. I'm confused - just a beginner. Last weekend, we created a page with coffeecup - uploaded everything (with all the links to a mediaplayer and a word doc). Everything turned out perfectly - and we didn't have to mess with these files on the godaddy account. Am I missing something obvious here? Please talk to me like I am a first grader when it comes to the lingo and stuff.
Thanks,

Chris are you able to use your friends computer , and use your info to connect to your site? you have all the info correct. if you were to create a catalog that would only make a sub folder which you don't need . My godaddy account is left blnk also in the WWW slot, and works fine.I would suggest just trying a practice run by adding a couple iages to a new vsd project and see if that uploads. What operating system are you using?
Is vsd installed in the default location? (C drive)

OK - I am still having some issues, but Coffee Cup sent me some things to ask my hosting provider. I called GoDaddy - and they told me that although I had a hosting account - I didn't actually have a web domain purchased. So, I bought the domain name. The GoDaddy people told me that I had the "house" purchased, but no "address" to use their analogy. Anyone reading this who is a novice....you get your domain name first, and then sigh up a hosting account (like GoDaddy) or whomever. Then when you get your hosting account, that account points to the web address you already have - i.e. your domain name.
GoDaddy told me to wait about 48 hours before trying again. They told me I could type in the www.domain.com to see what comes up. If it says "under construction" - they said I would be ready to upload with coffee cup. So - I'll wait the 48 hours and try again.

Chris,
I wouldn't wait 48 hours. That number is likely the longest it could possibly take. Give them an hour or two then check. If it is not there, wait a few more hours. I would guess it would be ready much faster than the 48 hours they used.

I am getting this same error, but have successfully used the last version of VSD in building and maintaining my company's site for the past 2yrs.
I just purchased a new computer and downloaded the new version of VSD. My webpage was brought over to the new computer and opens fine, but when I go to upload some changes to the "news" section of the site I get this error.
Would appreciate any assistance so I can get my site updated quickly
Best regards,
Chris

Might need to be more specific when talking about old/new versions. Be sure to download & install 5.9.1 if you haven't already. 5.9 & on has a major update in uploading.
Sorry, my current version that I just d/l is 5.9.1 and this is the version that I cannot upload to my site.
I really don't know what the old version was since I no longer have the computer that it was loaded on. I do know that I d/l that version in Sept '06.....hope it helps.
Best regards,
Chris

Your web server isn't Windows-based by any chance?
yes it is Windows based

Recalling a post I read here in the past couple of days, VSD 5.9.1 tries to create a catalog file that starts with a period in the filename -- this is illegal for Windows boxes. And this is supposed to be addressed by 5.9.2 due out early next week. (Don't hold me on it as I'm just repeating the information)
Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
