Hi, I am new to this forum, my apologies if I miss something..

Visual Site Designer, 6.0, Build 6 (I bought the software a few months ago)

Here is my problem(s) and I am frustrated as I have spent 18 hours doing 3 hours worth of work today. I have built many sites with other software, and never had a challenge like this.

I designed a basic one page site today, with logos and shapes. Went great. I decided to change the shape and move the logo. That is when all the problems began.

In preview, all was perfect. Uploading, logos and shapes were all over the place. Deleted from the folder, re-synced, deleted all files and re-added over and over again. No change. I had to re-build from scratch again.

Did so, site address is http://members.shaw.ca/teamtobatrack

I added a twitter logo the first time, didn't like where it was so I moved it and uploaded again after the change. Well, the same problems arose. The twitter logo moved to where i wanted it to AND also stayed where i had it the first time.

I re-synced, everything. I deleted it from the design, and even from the folder and its still there where I had it in the first place (and the link is gone). Its almost like a ghost. What am I doing wrong? I am soooooooooooo frustrated.

Hi Ken,

I watched your site, to me it looks great! The only problem I can think of is the following:

Your computer stores a copy of a site in a so-called 'cache' locally, to speed up browsing when you watch the same page many times. When you upload a new site to your server, then this cache and the new site are mixed up. So it's not really a VSD problem. What you should do is empty this cache first before you watch your new design. A freeware software, CCleaner http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner can do this for you. It's a great little software, cleaning the registry as well, among other things. It even will warn you to shutdown your browser before it cleans (empties) the browser cache, otherwise it can't empty it....

You also can try to refresh the page (F5) when this problem happens, but this is not always successful.

I said it is not really a VSD problem, but VSD should have an option built-in to never use the local cache, which can be done if you use HTML. It's one of the 'keywords' options to bypass the local cache always (so reloading a fresh version from your server always). Look for it with Google...

Success, John

BTW, the problem will disappear automatically if you have some patience. The cache refreshes itself over time...

I have done a re-sync. Does it still look okay for you? The twitter logo moved and is compressed, as did quite a few shapes (black and white boxes moved and an additional hollow orange shape has appeared.. It looks like a real mess to me.

Is that how you see it?

Thank you for your help.

Hi John, and also a reminder that I don't want the twitter logo on my site (for now), it doesn't show in the preview and is deleted from all folders. I have cleaned out my cache, and the site looks brutal for now (shapes all wrong). Maybe if I get some sleep and come back, it will look better.

Ken... just make sure you are using core fonts too as if the ones you have on the site are specific to your system, there will be a lot of people who won't get the same font come up. They will default to what your user has in their own system. I see some bad overflow in your links area.

It looks like this :
Why are you using shapes ? You should try using a base picture instead of a shape

Hi Ken... everything is looking better, apart from that very uncertain header area. I am seeing the same thing HotWheels has added in the screenshot. Not quite sure what your intention was there, but I would suggest just that header text on a plain contrasting background instead of adding that shape there. It would probably have much more impact and look more professional IMHO.

hi everybody,.

thank you for your help on this. I have uploaded the same site to one of my gator sites and it looks perfect so the problem is definately not CC VSD.

What hot wheels shows above is the exact same site uploaded to my cable providers free webspace.

Hotwheels, you recommend not using shapes (like squares etc) but instead a base picture. What is that?

Right. I see that now.
Perhaps what HotWheels is saying is to produce a single background image there for your header which is the same width as your web site and has all the title and so on already embedded in the image. That way.
