Hello

My wife started building a site with her purchased copy of Visual site designer. When she uploaded it to our provider many of the files did not seem to be in the right place. I had to go in to the code for the site and remove the /files from the code to get the pictures to show up. She is having an issue with this program and how it is displaying the site and an issue with the way things were uploaded. Please let us know if you need any further info or have questions.

Do you have a link so we can check it out?
On another note, all images placed into VSD go into the files folder, this is why they pointed to it.
VSD will usually rename images if they are added by using the add files option, How did she add the images?
What operating system?
host provider?
browser?
:)

I have a question regarding the directory structure when using VSD to create a website.

As Bruzer mentioned, I see all files get dumped into the ../files directory. This includes the source files I import and the IMG_### files that generate the web pages.

Is there a method to store my source files in a separate directory from the machine generated IMG files? I *think* this is done when importing download files (mostly pdf's I created), but I don't remember whether *I* created this subdirectory or VSD created it!

I'm new to this software suite and I am trying to get my mind wrapped around the storage structure.

Hi Robert,
if you were to add any document, or link to a document in VSD, it is automatically duplicated in a folder called Download, which is located in the files folder. The files folder is only for images. If you wanted to not use the downloads folder for a document, I believe that would have to be an external link (text) perhaps and then use the "add files" under the settings tab to add it. Or am I misunderstanding the question...

I might be mis-stating my question!

I'll try a different approach... VSD builds my website from my source files, I am under the impression my source files are 'analyzed', cut up into pieces, and output as IMG files. Groups of IMG files create the actual web page(s) displayed by the browser. These IMG files are stored in the same files directory, mixed in with my source files.

The question is "Is it possible to keep the source files and IMG files separated, in different directories?"

The issue I am trying to avoid is having one large directory of all the files and having to scroll through them to locate (and update) my source files that fall alphabetically after the IMG files.

If the answer is "That's how it works", I'm okay with that. But I would submit the idea of separating the input files from output files as a feature request. Or maybe I'm overlooking a setup issue and this technique is already implemented.

OK Robert, I kind of get what your saying, but the fact is, VSD places all images in that "files" folder and I've personally have been trying to figure out why it renames certain images to(IMG_) and know that if you place 1 image on a couple pages it renames the duplicates, may be more then a couple, but anyway VSD can only place it's images in this folder but it is a good suggestion. So in short negative but the new version may have this option as there alot of suggestions on this subject as well. Sorry!
