Problem with links to PDFs - Page 2

This is what is in the downloads directory.

The first link - GeneralGuidlines. pdf is not there.

The second link - Financial Procedures.pdf is not there (although Financial procedures-teacher supply.pdf is there).

...

Check your documents actual names against the links, although I don't know how this is an issue as I thought VSD accomplished all this for you visually.

I am having a similar problem with the new version... I have even tried creating all new buttons on one page that has several linked pdf's, and while the first upload of the site worked, after all subsequent uploads (for minor updates on other pages) the links are lost! I have quite a few such links on my site, so this is a cumbersome and troublesome problem!

Here's a direct link to a page that has several pdf's linked...

I would open a support ticket as your not the first one to have this issue.

I dont know if this is relevant, But i have noticed the link tool in vsd after last update, has a bad habit of dropping or changing the selected internal page selected when selecting browser option.

(ie) bullet mark internal page, and select page 3 with drop down, then select new page top, and then the page option has changed back normally to home page.

Just wondering if there's a similar error elsewhere, replacing _ with blank spaces , or putting unwanted spaces in after x number of letters (money pit) instead of moneypit

I am finding too problems with PDF's only at this stage. Separate links pointing to the same document

Plus I get zero before the extension ie mydoc0.pdf instead of mydoc.pdf. Not all the time some are ok. All documents upload. I am having to as a workaround use a ftp program(Guess which one) and add the zero to the file name. Not a major problem but annoying.

One thing, if the document link was not grayed out after browsing it could be checked. There must be an anomaly there that causes it. It is a bug.

Hey Oz Guy -

It sounds like you've got a work-around for something that is stopping me in my tracks. Could you explain what you do, (very slowly), so that I could exactly what to do?

Thanks!

Ok I will try and help. With VSD loaded and with your site in it. Open up my computer

1. navigate to the folder that VSD saves your site to ie mysite_website
2. If you look into that folder you should find a list of your html pages
3. You should also find a folder 'files'. In this folder are all the images etc
4. In the files folder there is another called 'Download'. It is here where the PDF's and I suspect other documents are assembled even zip files although I have not checked that yet.

So first check that all the PDF files are in the folder. Next as said before check all links that the calling names are the same. Even redo the links pointing to the original location of the PDF.
Now zip up that folder and save. you have a copy plus all the backups from year dot.
After you have checked your links in VSD. Delete the mysite folder. Go back to VSD and save the site.
If you navigate back to the newly saved folder all the files should be there.

I believe VSD is supposed to delete and replace as required but this should now reflect all the files for your site. It can also be uploaded by ftp manually. My mistake was not setting the links correctly I think. Not sure. I have not had trouble since. Must have been me not the program remember the old computer saying "Bull Shit in Bull Shit out"
Best of luck
Get stuck and contact me on my site at http://inkmon.org there is a beaut form there compliments of CC. I will do all in my power to help if these points do not. I represent all those helpful guys from down under so I feel it my duty.

To Lezli Logan
I looked at the contents of your downloads directory and your pdf file has a different name than your link.
Try redoing those links. point to the original document not the one in the files folder also keep the name simple ie My.pdf not My01-22-3001.pdf or what you have on line.

Tip put a copy of your index.html in every folder. That way people cannot easy see what is in it like I just did

If you keep this in mind The Program is always Right it must be me and you will solve your problems

if not take Vivs advice and use a bit of impact maintenance

Make sure that's a "blank" index.html file rather than your main site's index.html file. Put that in all image folders, file folders etc.

You can also add this line IndexIgnore * to the .htaccess
