Hi everyone,
I have a little issue. I have a website in which I inserted photo galleries: shoes4u.ca

All galleries were working fine until I decide to make updates today, updates that have nothing to do with the galleries, but when I tried to re-sync the website, VSD could not find any of my gallery files. After trying a bunch of different thing without success, I read a few things on the forum and decided to re-open my galleries in Photo Gallery and save them in a new folder. Then I removed all my gallery files from VSD and reinserted the galleries with the flash tool.

I followed these steps given by scott in this post:
http://www.coffeecup.com/forums/photo-gallery/flash-photo-gallery-help-please/

1. Create and save the Flash within its application (Form Builder/Photo Gallery/Juke Box/Video Player).
2. Switch to Visual Site Designer.
3. Open the page where you want the Flash to display.
4. Click the Add Flash Tool on the Toolbox and click on your page where you want the Flash object to display.
5. Click Browse to search for the XML file saved from our other software.
6. Click Finish.

After doing that, I finally saw my galleries in the preview and did not get any errors while uploading the site. However all my galleries still appear as white boxes on the site. Any suggestions?

By the way I am using VSD 6.0 and Photo Gallerie 5.94

Thank you

Steph

Hiya Steph,
make sure you uploaded the files for the galleries also like the graphics for the gallery layouts themselves if it's all showing in white. That usually means that the code of your site cannot find the graphics for what is supposed to be in a space or the files if it's flash or java etc.

Make sure you check the code you placed in your site and see where the files are supposed to be located, then check to make sure those files are indeed in that spot and lets go from there. If it's still not working please post again so we can try something else :)

Hi Wolverana,
Thank you for the fast reply. I did not actually place any codes anywhere. I believe I was told that by using the Flash tool in VSD all the correct files would load by them selves. I think this is what I did last time, but again I could be mistaken. But I don't remember doing anything with the codes. Could you give me a hint where I should insert those codes (I am not to good whit all this html stuff ).

Thank you
Steph

well lets start with the first question... did you open your old created galleries in the new version of the Gallery software? There's quite a few changes that took place that could be what is affecting your galleries if they are pretty old. I'll have to do that with mine too when I get to that point on my personal site lol.

Do that first if you haven't, if you have then let me know that too, I'm off to lunch for a bit but I'll be back in a while and see what's up on it (unless you post in the next couple minutes while I'm finishing up here lol), and if no one else has helped you solve it we'll see if we can't get to the bottom of it.

I'm guessing opening with the new version will fix most things though so try that first if you haven't :)

It seems I had the newest version of photo gallery, but my version of VSD was not up to date. I installed the new version of Visual Site Designer and when trought the same steps as mentionned before. I reinserted my galleries ans re-sync the site. Still those white boxes seem to remain. But when I do a preview everything seems to be fine. I don't get it...:o

EDIT: I haver noticed someting. I decided to make a modification to my main(index) page. a simple change, just changing the date a the bottom. I upload the page, VSD told be that site loaded sucessfully. When I went to check the site, the update was not in place! Is it possible that the site is not loading to the server properly? I'm not sure why this is happening.

Thank you again for your help

Ok let's see, I'm wondering if you altered the code at all before you inserted it? If not, check also to see if you have the IE fix checkmarked as that can be a culprit too. if you do, then just uncheck it and save your gallery again and re upload it and see if that works or not.

I'm finding a lot of problems with sites updating lately myself too, and have sometimes waited for days for the site to all of a sudden decide to show the changes, so this could also be server side rather than software, but check that setting anyways just to be sure.

Hi Wolverana,
I also have the feeling this is likely a server issue. I will try what you are proposing and if it does not work I guess I will simply have to wait and see. Could you just tell me where this IE fix setting is? I cannot seem to find it. Is it the same as active content fix?

Thank you so much for you help

Hi Steph,
I don't know if this may help you -but usually when I see a white box I think the xml, html, and swf files are not together. So with another ftp client such as filezilla or direct ftp I would upload those 3 files to the same location as the folder for the galleries. So so if the boots_files folder is there with all the images in it, then make sure the xml and swf are to, make sense to give that a try. :)

Yep what Bruzer says too lol, and yes that's the Active Content Fix toggle Steph.
