Page looks different within VSD than...

I've built and maintain several Drupal CMS sites, and several sites that I built from the ground up with pure html codeing so I'm not a total novice. I know about ftp, etc.....

I am new to WYSIWYG site building, maybe that is the problem. :D

What I don't understand is how/why a page built in VSB can look different when viewed from within VSD, than it does when viewed on the web??

Have a look at the 2 jpgs I've attached. Thoughts???

Thank you for your time.

It might be due to the way different browsers render pages. The preview in VSD would be with IE, not sure what browser you are using?

I prefer using the HTML Editor to VSD as it gives more control, so if you are more comfortable coding from scratch the HTML Editor might be a better choice for you.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

Hi James,
I did a test with the theme you used and I may have not got your exact look, but i'm close. lol
I'm thinking that in this theme there at least 3 layers of background and maybe you missed removing something when removing the previous content. I know sounds dumb but I removed alot and tested it online as well and got this.

HIYa Bruzer,

Perhaps you are right. I think I'll just scrap the complete site and start over again. Its not so far along that it will take much time.

This time I'll be carefull to remove ALL background layers before rebuilding the site.

Thanks for the tip.

Hi James,
I wasn't that was the problem just what I had done, it seemed to work, even when I took it all the way down to the last layer then added a black shape . still funny how 4 images were added however one on top the other- I couldn't duplicate that without manually adding them. Please let us know how it comes out.:)

HiYa Bruzer,

I'm getting close to asking for a refund on VSD. No one can tell me why a page displays correctly in side VSD, displays correctly when viewed with Chrome, Firefox, IE on my local computer. BUT when viewed on the Web all kinds of weirdness shows up. :)

In the past I have not thought much of WYSIWYG web editors. Maybe this is why. :) :)

I'm gonna keep at it for a bit longer. Sigh.....

Have a good day.

James I don't think it has anything to do with VSD not working. Have you put in a Support ticket?

I'm not a big fan of wsiwyg editors so I tend to stick with html editors but have played a bit with VSD and its always shown up correctly when uploaded.

I think the tech team might be your best bet at this stage and you may be able to get answers to your questions.

Often its just operator error and very difficult to track back to what happened.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

Bruce is clearly correct in that the image 'onweb' has more than one layer of images. And they are not placed exactly on top of each other, you can see that it has two of the same images nearly covering each other. The uppermost layer seems to be the one which is being displayed in VSD.

Since I don't use VSD much, I can't tell which template you are using, but maybe your problem is not actually with VSD itself, but rather with the template. When I have used VSD, I have never used any templates, only making up something from scratch, and I don't have any issues with differences in look when inside vsd or on the web.

Hi James
(Audible Odyssey theme)
As mentioned above you should put in a support ticket or if you care to email me and try to upload the one of the servers I use, we could probably narrow it down, just to help, I's hate to see you give up on something so easy to use, and so great a program. It's gotta be something simple don't you think, because a million people can't be wrong.
So don't give up! let us all help find the problem whether it's uploading, user error, the theme, whatever.
Have you tried closing all programs running in the background before uploading, disabling your anti-virus or firewall?
take a look at the link I put up- it shows what I did to your theme, ewwww I know made a mess! lol:)

We are actually just about to release an update to Visual Site Designer and we have put a TON of effort into the markup and making the site look the same in all browsers. You can see a test here at http://swedorski.coffeecup.com This site looks identical in Opera, FireFox, Safari, Chrome and IE. The site also validates without any warnings or errors:

http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1 … cup.com%2F

Also the CSS validates without any errors too:

What I would love to have is a few Websites from some of you that I can open and run a few tests on to make sure there are no unforeseen issues. If interested, drop me an e-mail at scott@coffeecup.com

I need the VNU file and the _website folder placed into a single zip file.
