Now on Preview browser No 3 - Post ID...
Win 7 64bit VSD 7 (24) Chrome 15 /+ IE9
I am now on preview browser number 3. My browser is Chrome but always get an error message on preview. Has been like it for a long time. I now use IE9 but now that crashes on a "certain page" preview (and takes quite a while to kill the page using task manager). Now using Firefox.. seems to work.
Thought I would rebuild "the certain page" but now find I cannot apply my own screen resolution.... just won't let me write anything in the box
If I reinstall VSD what do I need to save ? .... if anything.

If you have saved your work someplace outside the VSD folder, like desktop or so, it shouldn't be necessary to save anything. But to be absolutely sure you could save the vnu file and the website folder to a pen drive.
Why not publish the URL and let us take a look at that site and see if we can find out why you get the errors? A lot of us have 5 browsers installed for testing (the ones you mention plus Safari and Opera).

I have found it is this on a page that seems to cause the preview problem on IE 9
http://www.steveonline.info/test4.html
when I click "Allow blocked content" yes to:
"Internet Explorer restricted this webpage from running scripts or activeX control"
it crashes.
