Not quite WYSIWYG, and working with...

I just bought Coffeecup VSD and after working with it for a couple weeks I have some questions. My website URL is http://www.gardenlist.com, and the Coffeecup built part of it is small right now, just the front page and about 5 or six others. I’m running on a Windows 7 64-bit system.
My site is primarily text, with a lot of links in it, and there are a lot of pages. On my first page I have a couple lists in small print of links to other pages. I want to put a “NEW” graphic next to the links when the pages have new content. It looks right when I build it. But when I preview the page, the graphic is shifted up so it isn’t next to the link any more. I have to make a guess where the software will put the graphic when I place it on the page, not really what I want to do. The same thing happens at the bottom of the page. Some of my pages are very long, 15000 or 20000 pixels, and when I preview it the bottom graphic appears in the middle of the print. I have to place the graphic a long ways down from the text box while building the page or it doesn’t come out correctly. What am I doing wrong for the image issue?
Secondly, working with big text blocks in VSD is really slow. Sometimes my edits are not appearing at all until I hit “save”. Would breaking it into smaller text blocks work better? Also to rebuild it, I’m trying to do cut and paste from my old site into a text box on the VSD pages, and then manually re-create the links – is there a better way for me to do this?
I’ve read good tips here to solve a couple other questions, but haven't found these ones addressed directly, thanks for any advice.

When working with text in VSD there's a few rules that should be followed. Then even after you follow them your going to see a few variations in your pages from browser to browser.

Copy and paste can cause a lot of problems with your pages in VSD as there's sometimes formatting that wont show in the text but will be rendered by your browser skewing your page content.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Eric correct me if i am wrong, but copying and pasting from a published website is different to copying and pasting from another program I think ?

I have copied and pasted from a live site a few times and not had any issues.

Cut and paste from my site is fine, I just have to recreate all the links. Cut and paste from Notepad, lots of little formatting errors. Cut and paste the text into an HTML block, more formatting errors. I don't mind (much) re-doing the links, just was hoping there was something simpler I didn't know.
Large blocks of text not refreshing when I edit is a bigger problem, as are the graphics not displaying where I put them. Again, I can learn to work with it if it's just one of those things.

Really when It comes done to the final product, do what ever looks good or works for you. I have plenty of copied and pasted text in my site and I adjust the other elements until they appear where I want them.:)
