How do I get the code into vsd so that my website will be considered safe? Thanks!

What code is it that Norton wants you to insert? I have never heard of anything like that before.

When performing a search for my site on Bing, various listings are considered "safe" others are "untested". As a site owner I attempted to follow their (Nortons) directions to insert code into my site for Norton's verification. However, I am not sure where the code should go.

Norton's directions:

To submit the Web site for ownership verification

1. Do one of the following:

a. Copy the following meta tag and paste it into your Web site's home page. It should go in the <head> section, before the first <body> section.
<meta name="norton-safeweb-site-verification" content="dn5zyg-37qnyh7e57480980pd7b71t4cvjmvsn55w7ae49cwfvwojpp2as8orku1tv9etixl52lr246m6w7dwwxr49a0wy6tgfsr752u2afirgtcmky93jlw4sr1rlml" />

b. Create a file with the following file name and content:

File name: nortonsw_4f8c62d0-0e10-0.html
File content: dn5zyg-37qnyh7e57480980pd7b71t4cvjmvsn55w7ae49cwfvwojpp2as8orku1tv9etixl52lr246m6w7dwwxr49a0wy6tgfsr752u2afirgtcmky93jlw4sr1rlml

Add this file at the root folder of your Web site.

Page 19 of the VSD manual explains how to edit header information, which is what you're talking about when you want to insert meta tags.

Has anyone done this? and is it worth going through the effort to have that green check mark next to your site listing with a google or bing search?Are there any reasons not to do it.

That depends, I guess. Others will also see that green checkmark, and that may decide which site they will be visiting.

I did it for google. Goto the webmaster tools verification and it will give you a whole bunch of options.

I don't care about seeing a safe site mark after I am already on the site. That would accomplish nothing since I already on the site and potentially exposed to malicious activity. :D

These safe marks appear in your search that you do with google or bing. So you have not gone to the site yet. It lets you know if it is safe to go before you go!!

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
