Newbie -- Text issues VSD - Post ID...
Hello Everyone,
I'm new to VSD and have never designed a website. Ever. I did do a search for my questions and came up with nothing, so I'm sure there is something I'm missing here and need someone to point me in the right direction.
1) When I create a link to another page is VSD out of a word within a text box, the text that I’m using to link with becomes underlined. So, for example, in the previous sentence, if I were to use the text tool and highlight the word link, then create a link to another page, the “link” word would then become underlined. I don’t want it underlined. I just want it to change color. I see how I can change the color of linked text when setting up the webpage, but is there a way get rid of the underline?
2) When changing text to advanced text to create mouse overs, the quality of the text degrades and I get a very faint but noticeable light blue outline around the text. It looks bad in my opinion. Here’s what I’m trying to do – I’d like to have the word “Home” to link to a home page. So, what I would like is to create a mouse over that does two things – changes the text color from white to gray AND creates a color filled box around the text. I can create this no problem, but again I get the faint blue edges around the text, like it’s degraded. Does anyone else get this? If so, can I get rid of this? The only work around that I've found it to create the text in photo shop in white and gray with the colored box and use the text as pictures for the mouseovers and links.
Thanks in advance for any answers!
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
For 1. In the same place where you chose your link colors (Settings), there's a place to check if you want links underlined or not (or just certain ones; active, visited...).
2. With advanced text, you can select it (blue bounding box, not red), then use the Fill tool. So if your text is already red (for example), select, Fill and choose red. That should take care of it. Also - under Effects, make sure the shadows and glows are set to offset>0.

Thank you so much!!! The fill tool makes perfect sense to do that. I wonder why VSD does this to the text anyway, seems like it should just "work" and not alter the look of the text. Maybe that's an improvent I'll suggest.
I'll try this when I get home tonight. Thanks again!

Hi Ryan (I use the HTML Editor not VSD), if you are referring to why link text is automatically underlined, it's because that is a browser "norm".
Underlined blue text is the usual way browsers show linked text without any embellishments, to the point where if you underline text to emphasise it many visitors will try to click on it thinking it is a link.

Hi Zipper,
Thanks for the info. That's what I figured (that it was a standard) but I was just trying to bypass it and highlight the link in a different manner. Thanks!
