Hi all, I created this www.flintanddenbighrc.com in Expression Web. I used to have a huge, fully functional website in FrontPage, and then my hosting company decided to withdraw support and FP extensions which meant all my forms would not work anymore. Wanting to keep up with the times (!), I decided to do a re-design in Expression Web. Big mistake. I have had an absolutely nightmare with it, I only do this in my spare time, and I currently have none, and no hair either, as it's torn out in handfuls by the computer desk.
I like coffee cup software, and have decided to look into the Visual Site designer. I have to admit to knowing nothing about fixed with, every site I've ever made was a liquid layout. What size site is recommended? I only have a 15" screen at home, but I've noticed on the wide screens at work that my site looks totally different. Ideally I would like it as a liquid layout, is this possible? I may be capable of inserting a teensy bit of code if it was explained to me in single syllables. Or could someone explain what happens if you don't have liquid layout, and how the site would look if it was centered, would it have a background colour or just centered over white? If it had a background colour, surely that would mean it was a liquid layout? Confused of North Wales.
Also, does the free download version have limited functionality? I can't seem to create links!
Need a bit of explanation re liquid...
Hi,
Take a look at this site: http://www.coffeecuphelp.com/cchelpvsd/index.html
It has been made with VSD, and it shows that fixed width can indeed be made with a coloured background. Also, if you check out the templates that come with VSD, you'll find more examples of fixed width with coloured background.
The advantage of a fixed width is that the page will look the same in all screen resolutions, it's only the space on either side of the contents that will vary in width.
If you are not familiar with html, I think VSD is a good choice. I haven't had a free downloaded version of it for ages, so I can't answer your question about creating links.
