Have I missed something? I realise it's not possible to bring sites back to VSD once they've been worked on in HTML editor but even getting them into HTML editor seems difficult. Is there a recommended procedure or sequence I should follow?

It's not at all difficult. If you have a site made with VSD, locate the folder somename-v6_website. The files you need to open in the HTML Editor are in that folder. 'Somename' is of course the name you have given the site you made with VSD.
Note: You will NOT be able to open the .vnu file in the Editor.

Surely the new project needs all the flash, photos etc - how do they get into the new HTML editor project (which I assume I have to create manually also)?
I also assume there are some files in my VSD project which don't have to be moved to the editor project so knowing which don't go is as important as knowing those that do.

hiya David,
You should find everything for your site in that folder. If you don't see something there, then load up VSD, open your site in it and then Export your site to a folder on your computer and it should all be there. That's how some people actually choose to upload their sites, or need to if they have trouble with the upload within the program and their servers. Once you export the site, it should all be there for you to use in the HTML Editor to your hearts content.
You shouldn't have to start anything from scratch this way, but I would imagine it will take a little work to alter the code to work how you want it in a code based setup rather than VSD, but many do things this way. Lots of people like to get their site setup as close as possible to what they want and then they export so they can take it in code from there on. Makes things a little easier than having to start from scratch.
Good luck on it for sure, nice to see people go from visual to coding

I'm new to VSD. I couldn't find an "Export" option on any of the menus. Where do I find this?

There is no export. When you saved your Website in VSD, it already has created all the HTML pages for you. Just open those up in the HTML Editor.

Ah ty Scott, I was assuming it was an export thingie lol. My bad guys, but sounds like either way the files are created for you, just find them where VSD has saved them and you should be good to go

not sure if this applies to this same topic but here goes...
I had made several sites with VSD and uploaded the individual folders to the server but didn't add the .vnu to the server for some reason, I think it was that I never figured that my hard drive would crash and I would lose all that in a heartbeat but I did, so now I need to update several of the sites due to the fact that those businesses have moved locations. Am I only able to do this is in HTML Editor now? I kick myself for not making a backup but you know.....

Just a little crazy....a little.
Hiya Jammn,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately without the .vnu file you're not able to edit the sites in VSD and will need to edit them manually with an HTML editor of your choice. If you have CC's HTML Editor you should be set to go as these are pretty small changes to a site if it's just a matter of moving locations, addresses, domains etc.
Let us know if you need help figuring out what to change or move and I'm sure some of us here will be able to give you a hand where needed. Good luck on it and sorry that it had to end up like that for you.
