Published my site last night. I was told that I needed to put some wording in the metadata. The html savy webmaster who helped me publish could not find the metadata using VSD7.14 on my computer, and there was nothing in the help PDF. He gave me the code I need to alter. How do I find it? Specific instructions, please, I'm totally new at this.

Also, I have had questions answered in these forums that tell me how to alter hdml code. How do I find that?

And one very simple, unrelated, question. When I click on "insert hor/ver guide" nothing happens. Where does the guide (which I hope is a ruller) show up?

Hi Camilla,
Go to Edit and scroll down to Keywords and Description, that will give you a place to enter your meta data.
Sorry, can't help you on the hand-held device code, I think you'll have to write your mobile page/s in an editor or notepad and then in VSD, go to Edit > Edit Header to insert the code to switch from the VSD site to the mobile page. I've seen this mentioned in a few forum threads - maybe search for mobile phone pages or code?
Unfortunately, VSD doesn't have rulers. When you click on insert guide, you'll get a guide-line (vert or hor) that you can drag/drop to position it.

Will using Edit>Keywords and Descriptions overlay what is already set up? I just want to add to the existing metadata.

Thanks,
Camilla

You could try going to Edit > Edit Header and add it there. I'd preview the site and have a look at the code to make sure it's all in order before actually uploading it. :D

Do as paintbrush suggest and give it a try. The current meta data should show up in the key words description window.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

When we published to an existing site (old site had been deleted), we assumed (BAD) that the metadata for the old site would still be there. Nothing in the key words description window.

Just added what I wanted - guess I need to republish.

When I look at the edit>header, all I see is an http link to another site that I put on the homepage. Should there be more there?

The site looks good on the web, so I'm hoping we didn't miss too much when we published. The html geek helping me went through it all so fast, I really need to do it alone to sort it all out.

Paintbrush - you say I need to look at the code - I hate to sound so dumb - where is it?

Have ordered CC's book on HTML & hope it will arrive soon. Was a cobol systems programmer for 16 years, so should be able to figure it out.

Thanks for all the help.

When you go to the Edit Header box, you won't see the actual site header, only whatever you've added to it. So to see the code, first, preview the site. Then right click and choose 'view source' (if you're on a pc).
Since VSD is made for non-coders, it has its own way of doing things - so it's good to take a look behind the scenes when you add or change things outside of what is normal for VSD.

Can you supply a link Google may have a cached view of your old page.:)

Thanks so much - now I see the code!

The link is saucierumc - Saucier United Methodist Church.

There are old PDF files from the old website still out there. The former web master says he can't delete them - that the "spiders" will "lose" them eventually. I understand what he means by "spiders" but they sure do look a mess.

Thanks all,
Camilla

If you use the Edit > Keywords and Description it will add your meta data into the area below:

<head>
<meta name="generator" content="CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer, Version 7.0 Build 14 for Windows">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8">
<meta http-equiv="generator" content="CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer (www.coffeecup.com)">
<meta name="created" content="Sat, 05 Feb 2011 17:19:44 GMT">

All you do is type in the key words and a brief description for each page and it's done.

Have a search around the forums for custom error pages, or ask in a new thread - there may be some way to have those PDF 404 errors display some info and a link to the current site.

Looking Good! :)
