Sorry, but you've lost me on this. I have no idea what "DEP and UAC " means.

As for the vsdfix.exe, I downloaded and used it on Monday when I was having the messed up organize page problems which you helped me with. Today before publishing I re-entered the ftp information. Do I need to run this fix again?

You should only have to do that once. If that did not fix it, UAC and DEP is what I would suggest next:

Windows DEP:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind … n-settings

Windows UAC:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind … nt-Control

This is only a temp thing until you fix the problem. It is only to save time. Zip up your site and upload that as one file, much quicker, then use the file manager and the extract facility to finish the upload. You could use a php extractor but you will probably solve your problem by then. I actually upload my form file and folder this way.

Okay I am at a loss here. I have set DEP ON for all programs except VSD and set UAC to Never Notify, plus made sure that VSD was allowed Firewall access and now it stops uploading even sooner than yesterday. It doesn't even make it all the way through the HTML files before going into error msg mode. At least yesterday it made it through all the HTMLs then quit part way through the /files directory.

So, here are my questions. Testing the website in its current form, it appears to be working (http://www.KennethLaneSmithGallery.com), but I have a lot of content still to add to the exisitng pages, so:

Am I missing anything or doing any harm by doing a manual upload via FreeFTP?
Am I uploading more than I need to?
When I make changes (basically just text content and PayPal buttons) to various webpages in VSD, can I continue to upload them individually as they are completed via FreeFTP?

Sincere thanks for your help and patience.

Kenneth

Have you tried disabling your Firewall/Scanning software temporarily to see if it will finish then? If not then try that and let us know if it still does it.

Jo Ann:

I turned off the Windows Firewall setting and turned off my TrendMicro Antivirus software, along with all the other steps I mentioned previously and it still fails. In fact, each time it fails sooner and sooner in the process.

Now here is a real shot in the dark. I am on Bell Canada business telephone and internet service. My laptop connects with a wireless modem and the two are only 4 feet away from each other. I had a client email me yesterday to advise me that he was trying to call me and kept getting a busy signal. This should not happen as it should go to voicemail. Where I am going with this is that he tried to call when I was trying to upload the files. This has never happened before and I keep my laptop on and connected 24/7 and have never had anyone say they received a busy signal. Is it possible that my Bell connection is timing out due to too much data? I also notice that my website displays much faster at my home where I have cable internet access. Could it be a speed/data transfer issue causing VSD to error?

Would it be worth trying to do the site upload from my faster connection at home?

Thanks,

Kenneth

I think that could certainly be a factor in what is going on. I think testing on a different network connection would be a good idea.

Thanks. I will try to attempt it tonight and let you know if that solves it.

With 200 + pages and all the support files that is quite a upload total and will take time as the delivery is file by file. I still suggest with that amount of individual files consider trying a zip-upload-extract approach. for instance ftping the form folder and files takes me up to 2 mins on my setup and uploading the same files archived takes 12 seconds same ftp program. Point! all files get there.

If you want I can give you a utility I knocked up for myself that does just that and extracts online even writes the script and calls that script to extract the files.

Okay, as promised I tried uploading from my faster cable connection at home and even though it was faster, it still crashed before completing the upload.

Next I created a test site on S-Drive (klstest/coffeecup.com) and low and behold it uploaded all 2400+ files. I don't know how long it took because after waiting 20 minutes or so as it chunked through the files, I went to bed. To my surprise, all the file were uploaded this morning.

So, I am still a little stumped because I can upload those same 2400+ files directly with FreeFTP, but VSD seems to be having an issue doing the same thing.

Rather than beat a dead horse, I think I am just going to have to live with the manual upload.

I really do appreciate all the help that has been offered here.

And Prism (the guy from OZ), I woud be interested in hearing about your upload utility. As you may have surmised, I am not very adept at this stuff, so if it is simple to use, I would like to give it a shot.

Most sincerely,

Kenneth

Contact me by my link and I can email a copy to you. I have never had a problem with VSD though uploading my sites but there again they do not have that volume of files. You can help fine tune if you like. I may see if I can convert it to encryption uploading but all my hosts accept standard ftping.

Even if you have a Cpanel and Filemanager I can get you sorted. We all help and get helped in return here. Great forum you will find
