Hi, I would like to enlarge a couple of pictures in VSD and found this.

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicinde … agnify.htm

All I know is VSD, don't know how to do code. Thought maybe I could follow the instructions, but all got foggy when they started talking about rearranging the code. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you mean that you want to enlarge images to put onto your site? Or do you mean that once your images are on your site, you want other people to be able to magnify them?

Without reading anything in the link you have included, just a couple of words of warning. It is never a good idea to enlarge any image to a size greater than its original as you can be almost certain of a distinct lowering of quality. If you already own the original image in a much larger size than you intend to use on your web site, then you can use image editing software (the CoffeeCup Pix Converter is great) to make something the right size for the page, and then link that image to the larger original which can just open up by itself in the browser. You will need to give them different names eg. small-myimage.jpg and large-myimage.jpg where the "myimage" is obviously the name of your image and the ".jpg" is the file extension for the kind of image you decide to use. Don't forget that you will also need to upload both sizes to your server.

In the second instance I mentioned, most modern browsers allow users to magnify the web page they are looking at. On Firefox, for instance - under the "View" right up the top of the page, you will find a zoom in or zoom out option in the dropdown list which is ideal for those with sight problems and enables them to zoom in pretty close to areas of your page.

ok.. here attached are a couple of screenshots to show you the different position of the zoom tool in a couple of different browsers:
Firefox
Internet Explorer
Chrome

If you are wanting to allow users to zoom in, you could add a little note somewhere reminding them that these tools are available in the browsers.

Hi Sarah - Took a look at the link, cool effect! I don't write code, either but am often tempted by stuff like this. Since one doesn't have access to the html within VSD, use the HTML tool to create an area to put the code into. So you'll go to header>edit header and put the script there, then make an html box the size of your photo (and position it) to put this in:
<img src="ocean.gif" class="magnify" style="width:200px; height:150px" /> (don't forget to put your own file name in place of the sample names and change the photo dimensions!).

There were also 2 files to be saved along with this. I would create a folder in the same place as your other site files and put those in it along with any photos that will use the script.

Have fun with it! :D

Thank you Janys, Yes, I want to enlarge a portion of the picture so that the reader can see the text in a flyer. Am making a new website for a lady who sells medical transport equipment and she wants the flyer on the site from a company that she uses to sell the equipment from. It is 8.5 x 11", but is still not easy to read the text. Thanks for the idea of using the zoom tool. Still feel challenged to make a magnifying tool to see parts of the image. The website is on a temporary site so that the owner can see what I'm doing as I build it. The url is http://www.yourfirstlook.net. I haven't put the flyer up yet as I was trying to figure the magnifying out first. But, thank you so much for your ideas. I always appreciate your input and I find your websites and blog just so great.

Hi Paintbrush. Thanks for your post. You have encouraged me to give this a try. I'll let you know how it works out. I have to have a phone meeting with the customer today, so will let her know about all this professional help I am getting.

Thank you both. Sarah

Guess I should mention, the photos in the photo gallery are ones I just used for the time being. I have since purchased them from istockphoto and will make a new gallery for the final site.

Sounds as if I should go check that link as there is obviously a lot more in there than meets the eye.

Just a suggestion Sarah - try and set a better colour for the links to increase the contrast against the deep red background since the default blue gets a little lost there. If the footer content is important, you might also consider increasing the font size very slightly. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal, but it does look as if your site is intended for people who may have problems of one kind or another. You should perhaps try to get a "picture" of your intended audience too - can they use the mouse easily? Can they use the keyboard? Will the magnifier work equally well with both? The zoom tool I mentioned just needs a quick CTRL ++ or CTRL -- to enlarge or make smaller.

Now I will look at that link...

Hi Janys, Thank you for the suggestions. the small blue links are from Bravenet. It is a temp free website and hence the ads. However, you have given me pause to think about how I deliver the info and the ability to maneuver the site for handicapped viewers. thanks so much. Sarah

You are welcome, Sarah. I mentioned it because my sight is not that great and I was unable to read the links properly at the foot of the page, so assume that for someone in a worse state than myself it would have been even more difficult.

All the best, and I hope your research gives you satisfactory results.
