Large vertical gap between two...

Hi. I have created 3 objects: a text box converted to an object; a .gif; and another text box converted to an object. As you see at www.custardquest.com/cquestscroll2.html , there is a large space between the first text object and the second object (the .gif image) when viewed in the preview pane or when it is uploaded. I cannot get rid of that large space. It shows up in windows in both explorer and Firefox, but it looks correct when I view it on my IPad. I have tried deleting all three and recreating the page, but it still inserts that big gap. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? I contacted support but received no specific advice, just the standard things to look for, which didn't help. Does anybody understand why that large space is there?

I'm running VSD 7.24

Thanks for any help.

Hi BF,

Not sure what's causing it, but it looks like some things might be duplicated. In VSD, go to Edit, select all and see if there are some extra things on the page underneath something else. Sometimes text overlapping images can cause things to go wonky as well.

Your image name has a % sign in it. It's best to stick with just letters (lower case), numbers and _ if you need a space – no symbols.
For your background, instead of using large images, you can go to page properties and choose a background fill. This will be fixed underneath anything you put on the page, so less chance of conflicts (and you'll have a smaller page file size).

Maybe someone else will see something else you could try :)

There are images under the text (which are also images after they're converted), but when I removed the background images, and just left only the 3 objects on a blank page, the gap remained in preview mode. Because I don't understand coding very well at all, it's hard for me to decipher problems by just looking at the code under "view source." Hopefully, somebody will have another idea.

Thanks,

BF

The problem is that you have all of those paragraphs in a single text box.:) That's a VSD No No.;)
Read this article to get up to speed.
http://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/ … -designer/
If your hitting the return key to space text down then you need a new text box.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Ah. Thanks, Eric. I considered that, but I wasn't trying to do anything fancy, like contouring or wrapping my paragraph around an image, so I figured that didn't apply to my situation, where I'm just clicking return key to skip a space between lines. I have an awful lot of paragraphs to redo, but I'll give it a try and see what happens. Thanks, Eric.

Indeed, Eric, that worked. It took about a half-hour to convert the whole thing into separate paragraphs, but you were correct. Thanks!

You welcome. If you have a lot of text you can put it in a html box and style it with some css. It might look weird in the design screen but it does work.:)

I think I am more interested in your story than your presentation which could be improved broken up and laid out as a book type display.

In my 70 years I have seen some strange happenings, I have survived some events I should not have and believe there is a purpose and it is for us to discover a reason.

One thing there is a tremendous gap between a theory and reality and the trick is to work out which it is. It is so easy to make something out to be more than it is. We have had crop circles in Australia and it was found they were man made. Being interested in the Paranormal is one thing believing in it should be done with caution. Yes I actually saw a ghost/ apparition it was a chilling experience, I was 18 walking along a gravel path past little cottages in England where I lived one balmy Summers evening. At the gate of one was a old lady to me then. I wished her a good evening to which she replied in kind. She turned to go to her door but drifted. My blood turned to ice, we were both standing on gravel and as I walked back to see I could hear my foot steps but not hers on the gravel. She just vanished before me. I like to think myself as rational and have often considered parallel universes as in life there is always a logical explanation. The thing is not to become infatuated with it sometimes acceptance without having an explanation is necessary.

The reason I am saying this to you is for you to use your talent to write stories not totally get absorbed in them. Life is beautiful in all its forms do not shut yourself away from experiencing what life has to offer. Do not give away what you believe in but do not leave yourself vulnerable to others and their beliefs. A person has two sides the one they see and the one others recognise in you. keep them separate and know the difference.

I guess it hasn't been uploaded? – still looks the same here.

Paintbrush, you were right. It was not uploaded at the time you checked it. I just uploaded it a few minutes ago. I had only checked it in preview mode earlier when I made that comment. However, now I have another problem. I have separated each paragraph into separate text boxes, but now there are uneven spacing gaps between each paragraph. I've tried grouping everything, and that didn't help. I'm not sure what the problem is now. My totally small mind guesses that it results from my text box being a certain size in VSD, but then when it is rendered online, the width of the text boxes change. Again, I am such a novice and don't know html or coding, so I'm always at the mercy of VSD and its whims. I know, I know, I should learn . . . but I'm busy writing paranormal stories! By the way -- a free promo for the site -- if you can find the clues within the text of the story, it will lead you to a stone hidden somewhere in the United States, and you win $350.

Thanks for everybody's help.
