Keeping track of the web sites - Post...

I'm totally baffled on this one. When I try to open an existing website it brings up a menu and it may have the same site listed 20 times. I don't think I've ever opened a folder that had any info in it. When I click the VSD icon (or whatever the icon is) it always opens a page with all my pictures deleted. I have to go back and add them, and on and on.

It may have one site listed 20 times. EVERY time I try to open a site to work on it, this happens.

How the heck do I keep track of what's what? Can I delete all these duplicates? Why are all the folders empty? Every time I save an edit should I then delete the last version I worked on? Where should I keep all this? Why does it keep adding more and more files? Why are all my VSD folders empty?

Give me some suggestions. This is getting way too frustrating.

Very confusing , so i have a suggestion for you

when starting a new VSD project (new website) make sure everything is in one place on your computer

(ie) i have a desctop icon websites

inside a folder for my deloreanjewellerywebsite, folder name (deloreanjewellery) where i save my project so the .vnu file will live and everything else will live.

Inside (deloreanjewellery folder) another folder with every picture i used on the website (ie) i put them into that folder 1st, then select them from that folder when adding to my website.

everything in something like an old fashioned file drawer, with everything inside the file drawer being (inside) its own specific folder

now if you want to move office, pick up the file drawer and carry it with you, it will all be identical in the new office

my guess is your picture have been moved separate from your website project (ie) re named ?

Thanks for the reply. One thing that is particularly aggravating is that so many files build up. Should I say "Yes" every time it asks if I want to save changes, thus over-write the original when I edit it? Sometimes I'd have 15 copies. I couldn't keep track of them. Is CC leaving all the old files?

Another aggravating thing is that when I use the jukebox I can click the right folder, click the right file, and time and again is shows no files. I got so frustrated that I pulled it out of a directory and put it on the desk top. It was also re-named. There was no possibility for confusion, yet when I tried to update the jukebox all the files showed no content.

CC keeps adding more and more files every time I edit and save one. I guess maybe when it asks to replace the existing file that I should say Yes, thus saving the updates with the original file.

That jukebox is a very confusing thing. I have a world of trouble with that since when I'm ready to add the updated jukebox, most of the time it says there are NO files there, but I know there is because I have isolated the main file, as described above.

Sometimes the jukebox feature seems to have a mind all its own. I might sit here an hour or more trying to add the updated jukebox. I'll go through the drill over and over. Finally, it will upload and work. By this time I've tried so many things I don't have a clue which method worked and why all the others didn't.

I guess it's just going to take more time figuring all this out so I can work fluidly, and not just go round and round in circles till my patience is gone.

Anything else you'd like to suggest I'd appreciate.

Just guessing here, but I never have this problem. Viv has the right idea. Begin with a clean fresh folder for your VSD site. I think you may be saving in different locations, moving things around after they are first saved. This is never good. Create a folder before you ever start a project with VSD. Start your VSD project then use the 'File/Save as' option off the menu to save your project. After that, every time you update something and want to save it, use 'File/Save' option, not 'Save as'. This will keep all your files in one location and works great. You should never be asked if you want to 'overwrite' anything as it should automatically update all needed files.

If you continue to have a problem where it asks you to overwrite something, then open a support ticket with CoffeeCup because it should not do that.

About the Jukebox. In VSD on the left side of the screen is a row of icons. The 'lightning bolt' looking one will allow you to add a CoffeeCup Flash object to your VSD site. After creating and saving your jukebox, open your VSD site and select this icon. Then browse to the directory where you saved your jukebox and find the .xml file. Double click that file and VSD will automatically add all files to your site for your jukebox. If all went well, if you select preview you should see your site, with the jukebox! At that point save your VSD site, then publish and VSD will transfer all files to your server.

Let us know if you are still having problems.
