JW Player embed into VSD - Post ID...

Long story short- Using Yahoo site builder. This program will soon phase out. I bought VSD to replace my Yahoo Site Builder. I was using and would like to continue using JW Player (I can brand the player with my logo and link to fb and twitter). This works beautifully with Yahoo software.

When I embed the code into VSD using the html there is an error message that pops up in the preview. Note the preview page does show the player and video just fine. It is when I close the previewer this message appears:
An error has occurred in the script on this page
line 53
char 3
Error Object required
code 0
URL file.......
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

I host with a second webhosting company different than the one my VSD site will be hosted on. I do not need to import the flv and swf files into the VSD. The embed code directs to the second web hosting files using
<embed
src='http://www.mysite.com/
player/playerviralx.swf'
width='400'
height='300'
bgcolor='000000'
allowscriptaccess='always'
allownetworking='email'
allowfullscreen='false'
flashvars='file=http://
www.mysite.com/
player/courtney.flv&image=http://www.mysite.com/player/courtneypreview.jpg&skin=http://www.mysite.com/player/
grungetape.swf&plugins=viral-2,fbit-1,tweetit-1&dock=true
&viral.link=http://www.mysite.net/video5.html
&viral.email_footer=My Site
&logo.hide=true&logo.file=http://mysite.com/player/logo.jpg
&logo.position=bottom-left'/>

What I need to know once I upload this site created with VSD with the above code- will it play correctly? No hitches? It works with Yahoo Site Builder but will it work with VSD?

Thanks. Deb

Good to know about SiteBuilder going away - I've got 2 SB sites that I want to re-do in CC. Now I've got a really good reason to get moving on them.
I had a look around on Google for "error object required". One possible reason could have to do with Doc-Types. Yahoo SiteBuilder runs in Quirks mode - there is no Doc-Type, so just about anything goes with it :P In CC VSD, you can choose your Doc-Type.
Here's something from the Longtail (JW) forum:

your page doctype is strict HTML 4 -

but you have 6 tags in the body (and one in the head) ending like this /> which is XHTML only !
<meta - <img - <br does not not use any closing tag in HTML 4 - the <embed tag you can close with </embed> instead.

You have to give the poor little thing a name/id.

Otherwise, he's running around asking everybody — "Who am I?", "Who am I?", "Who am I?", "Who am I?".

And the browser's asking him — "Who are you?", "Who are you?", "Who are you?", "Who are you?".

It's like an echo, you know?

<object id="player" name="player" width="200" height="131" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000">id/name can be any valid HTML element id/name string (MUST start with [a-zA-Z], it's best to stick to [a-zA-Z0-9] no "funny" characters).

I don't write code myself (so I love VSD), I do sometimes cut/paste code snippets, but that's as far as I go. So maybe someone more familiar with these things will take a look at this and see something right away to sort this out. Let us know what works....That JW Player looks interesting :D

Hello Paintbrush-
I just upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit. The site builder will work with computers using up to and including xp. There are known issues with vista and windows 7. Yahoo does not plan on updating the software and eventually the program will phase out.

I will double check the JW Player (Longtail) site- they have a set up wizard that I selected the embed code. I think there is another selection I can choose. Will try that and see if it makes a difference. Silly me didn't think to check my resources with Longtail!

Their play is awesome! I purchased my commercial license and never regretted it. I can change the skins to many different styles. Just need to fix the kinks with VSD before I remove the sitebuilder site and replace with VSD.

I'm not real good with the coding- have to depend on wizards and help from others. Thanks!

Even with the information I have been given I am still at a loss. If I were to use the HTML Editor and paste my current code above into it, will the editor tweek my code to work in the VSD?

You would have to do any tweeking yourself :lol: But all the tools are there.

Here's a thought - If it's working fine on the Sitebuilder site, leave the files where they are and make an IFrame on your VSD page that links to the player.

I added a slide show to my site (not JW), but maybe it might be similar - the code/files needed to be in 3 different places; images in the Add Files, the script code in the Header>Edit Header, and then there was the html in an HTML Box on the VSD page. Does The JW Player tell you what to put where?

And - One more idea! Maybe someone who's familiar with writing their own code will have a look at this and know just what you need to do! :D

Well that's annoying! I send myself notes from time to time just to make sure it's working. Guess I better have a look at it. You can use this instead (ccallie at sw bell dot net), just type it in as an email address without the spaces. When I made my first Sitebuilder site I had my email addy on it - big mistake there. I took it off a long time ago, but still get dozens of spammy offers every day.:P
Thanks for letting me know about the form! :)

For paintbrush- Is your website artwork gallery created with Coffee Cup software? And one more question on your website at the bottom between your links there is a vertical line seperating the words. How can I use those on my site? How did you do that? Thanks!

Paintbrush is offline, so I will add that it appears the gallery is using the jQuery and the plug-in Galleriffic. Both free to use.

JQuery

Galleriffic

The vertical separation can be achieved using the | key on the keyboard.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
