Is there a way? - Post ID 245707

I have a client who has decided to sell a few unique items through his website. He is selling them on consignment. I created the original website 18 months ago using VSD. He wants to be able to add the items to his website and use Paypal for accepting payment. He would like to be able to immediately "disable" the sale function when an item is sold, because these are obviously one-off items. Is there a way to accomplish this using VSD? (Maybe have a sold banner appear over image of item after sale is complete.) The client is afraid that two people will vie to buy the product at around the same time, and he doesn't want to have to explain to one of them that the product is no longer available. Integrity and public relations are important to him, as they should be. I know that SCCP could accomplish this, but we're only talking 5-6 items at any time, and integrating the original design might be cost prohibitive for him. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

I think you would have more cost in to making custom scripts to accomplish this without SCCP.
If there's only one item you could use a IPN to switch the paypal button for that item to a sold image.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I have a working IPN that might work for you if an example is needed.

I cut mine down to a simpler form. It will set an item_sold to 1 in a database and send the customer a thank you email.
You then use a mysql query on your page with the item for sale to check the value in the database and set the proper display properties.
I didn't have time to test it but it's setup with error logging to help with any issues.
