Internet Explorer 9.0.5 Compability...
I'm away from home, in a hotel in New York, lonely and tired, with a strange laptop trying to update my web site:
www.stbedesantafe.org
Running an earlier (??) version of VSD on this laptop (Windows 7), I couldn't create a "link to a document". When saving, VSD would always tell me it could not find the "downloads" folder, although looking in the "files" folder it was there.
So, I upgraded to VSD 7.0.24, the link problem was fixed. I deleted all files from the folder on my Bluehost server, and did a fresh publish. But, the font rendition in E 9.0.5 was very bad; shorter and wider. I know about normal font rendition behavior, but this was very bad.
Then I did the Internet Explorer "Compability View" thing and the problem cleared.
My question is, will others who look at my site and don't know about compatibility view going to see the messed up fonts? I would hate to put a note on my site about that; seems unprofessional.
Any suggestions?
(Firefox seems OK)
Thanks,
Jim

I think you meant to put this in the break room, as a suggestion for a CC dating program

Started using CC VSD in January 2009, I don't do HTML code, Sales from CC site exceeding expectations taken me out of semi-retirement

Hiya James,
Looks the same to me in IE 9.0.5 as it does in FF 10.0.2 and I don't have compatibility view turned on in IE at all when viewing it. Maybe you have an issue with the font on your computer?

Everything's fine here, too (IE9.0.8112...) and latest Firefox.

Enclosed as a file, is a screen shot of what the home page of this site looks like on VSD, since I upgraded to VSD 7.0.24 last week. Font rendition is a problem. You can compare the screen shot with the website as published.
In order to preserve the correct number of words in a line and the correct number of lines, I must add a hard return in VSD at the end of each line. Otherwise, the word-wrap is not correct.
Before I upgraded to 7.0.24, I had the normal annoying font rendition challenges, but not this bad.
I'm running Windows 7 on iMac "early 2009" with latest version of Bootcamp. Also Windows 7 on a MacBook Air with Bootcamp. Same symptoms on each. Pretty much the same published rendition on Explorer, or Firefox on Bootcamp, or Safari or Firefox on OS X.
Another clue is that I can't open 7.0.24 unless I do so as Administrator.
Since I don't see any other reports of this, I think it may be something unique to my system. I wonder if the Georgia font that VSD uses is somehow radically different from the generic Georgia that other Windows 7 or OS X systems use. I wouldn't know how to check for that. Perhaps I should try this with Times?

Site looks identical for me.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

The two browsers have nearly an identical look as far as the font is concerned. But browsers have their own way of rendering fonts, not much you can do about it. Google Chrome has the text larger than IE and FF.
Something else which is not identical: In FF and Chome the background colour outside the border is darker than the border. In IE it is the exact opposite.

I finally found out some things that enabled me to find a workaround to the really miniaturized font rendition I was experiencing in Internet Explorer running on Windows 7.
www.stbedesantafe.org (problem fixed when you look at it now)
1. What I didn't mention (sorry) is that I'm running VSD on Windows 7, but from an iMac (OSX) platform using parallels. Gross font rendition is apparent equally on OS X and OS X/Windows, and is just as bad on all browsers. Same effect using Parallels or using Bootcamp. Same effect using iMac 27 and same effect with MacAir. So, the problem seems to be how OS X renders fonts produced by VSD. It seems that even running Windows on the Mac, the font rendition is done by the OS X running in the background.
What puzzled me was that forum members couldn't see the problem. Probably because they were looking at it from a PC. I recently discovered that when I looked at the site on Windows running on a PC, it was OK.
2. Workaround was to convert the text to "advanced text" and then to convert it to a graphic image by applying a drop shadow effect with 100% opacity.
One puzzle remains, and that is that I don't see any "miniaturization" or compression in the font rendering on any other random (non-VSD) sites I see on the web, and I don't see the problem on two sites I maintain using WebEasy. As far as I can determine, the problem is only with fonts produced from within VSD.
Another clue is that if I link from within this site to a Word or PDF document, the text is perfect.
