I am not really sure this is where to ask this question but since I use VSD ...........

I need a place to host photos online so that I can provide a link to the photo. The photos don't need to be visible in my website but need them to keep the same naming structure and not change it.

Is there a way to do this or should I just go to Photobucket and upload them there?

thanks!

Hi Prairie,

Any photo website can do this, Photobucket, Picasa, Flickr, Fotki to name a few. All those sites can host photos and provide a link to these photos in VSD.

How about S-Drive Storage or S-Drive Albums?

Hiya Prairie,

Why can't you upload them via FTP to the server itself? The server doesn't change the names or paths at all so you should be able to link to them directly then. IF you do this though I would suggest putting Hotlink protection on the server :)

Thanks JoAnn,
I don't really understand where to upload them to on the server? Can you give me information on the steps to do this??

thanks!

I would have to know where you have your site hosted in order to do that. Do you have your own host or are you hosting with S-Drive? If with S-Drive you should be able to use CC's Direct or Free FTP programs to do it. If somewhere else then you'd need to get the FTP settings and can still use CC' FTP programs to do it. You'd need to get the settings from your Hosting server to put into the program.

I use GraceNet hosting service and will contact them to find out the particulars. I have done a little more research and the way I understand it is I just ftp them to a sub directory that I make and can use just for my photos.
Sounds good. Too tired tonight to do more research so maybe on Monday I will get it done.

thanks everyone!

Yep pretty much, and since you're using FTP really as it is with VSD (gotta have the basic FTP settings for VSD to know where to send the site files when it uploads) you probably have most everything you would need for the most part. Might need to play with the remote directory a little to make it work right, but shouldn't take much at all and you should be ready to go! Just make sure to uses Hotlink protection (ask your server hosting about how to do that if you're not sure) so that people can't link to your pictures directly and pull your bandwidth. Good luck with it :)

How many photos are we talking about, as for a few and I am taking it you will size them appropriately. You can use edit add files, Create a folder and place the photos there. I take it you are having a slide show or something similar.

If it is only a few photos then use the picture tool to place pictures on the page/s. VSD will take care of the upload in both situations. Links to full size photos can be added.

To do as Jo Ann suggested start with the Free FTP and use the same settings you used for VSD. When you connect you will see the structure of your domain on the server. It is much like your hard drive. Actually it is a portion of someone else's hard drive.
