After an update of my site today I found that on some of the pages certain images have much different size than designed. Mostly these are large, 900 pixel wide X various length rectangular shapes used under text. On the page linked here, in VSD the pixel setting is 900 X 1983, and the properties from the live site read 900 X 1993 pixels. In the design on VSD the box is tight to the end of the text, and there is way more than 10 pixels extra here. Any ideas?

The funny part is some pages do this, some don't. A few smaller boxes in Current Events did, some didn't. The History page settings are 950 X 1934, live the box is 999 X 1984.

I use Vista Ultimate, AVG Anti-Virus, VSD 7 registered. and IE 8

Just a guess here - but it looks like you've been doing some copying/pasting. In VSD7 copied items are pasted with a 10px x 10px offset. (Look for some changes to this annoyance in coming updates!) One thing that didn't change in 7 is creating all those IMG_(number here).JPG files.:( So when you copy and paste an image with an effect like a drop shadow, you'll end up with everything within the bounding box copied - so some background as well as the drop shadow. On the page linked above, there's 2 versions of the candle picture (one has the entire white block (IMG_51.jpg - 910 px wide) which sits over div object 4152 (another white block? 873px wide) and the other is just the candles (IMG_58.jpg) which seems to be hidden under the larger image.

If you haven't found this yet - VSD 7 will let you have 2 different backgrounds. Go to page properties and choose a solid color, image or gradient for your actual web page, then go to Settings and do the same for what shows around your page in the browser window. So much better than having to use a large shape as a background. You can't accidentally move it and you won't have any copy/paste issues.

I would start with setting the page background (white as you have it) then just use the Shape tool for the header and footer sections. If you're going to copy and paste images, add the drop shadows or other effects after they're in place so you won't have those slices of background being copied as well.

I hope all this is making some sense!

Hi paintbrush

Thanks for the tips. Yes they make sense! :)

My page actually has a gradient blue background with the large shapes placed over the top with text copy/pasted over the shape. I do that to make the text readable. However with VSD 7 now able to do a separate background I'll try that. It will make for less work too! (and yes I do occasionally move one accidently and have to re-position it.)

I'm not sure why the candle image is doubled. It is a picture I got off Google. After placing the original image on the page I used the effect tool to place a frame around it.

I do use the shape tool to create the headers and footers. However I use the add a page tool to create new pages, which is copy/paste I guess. However these images do not increase in size, only the ones I copy/paste text over.
