Working in Photoshop I can add a document title, description and keywords to my image. will this carry through the program and be available to web crawlers?

Also I was typing in keywords and repeating things like "Acrylic, Painting, Acrylic Painting" thinking they would look for phrases too. Is that redundant?

I hope someone else can answer above more specifically, but i have always found for SEO purposes naming my image folder carefully, and naming images carefully is helpful.

Better still adding alternative text to images once installed into vsd

Re keywords and keyword frases, everyone seems to have a different opinion, personally i never repeat words in my keywords and i do this so there are less words in total for spiders to trawl through.

My sites have good page ranking , check for instance my delorean site in signature, for 9ct signet rings, or masonic signet rings. Though SCCP products are more prominent than VSD

No, VSD strips the info from the image if you use the add image tool. If you want to retain this info use the add files tool to add the images then use a HTML box and hand code the images into your site.

As Viv said...

To add alt text; Highlight the image and go to Object Properties. Type in the image name and description.

Under Edit you'll find a place to type in key words. Best not to repeat them:

The alt text looks like the easy solution, keeping my page building as just drag and drop. Will the alt text alert the search engine that this is an image so it could show up on say a google image search?

I typed 'koi skeleton painting' and 'skelekoi' into a Google Image search and your painting showed up – it's the first image for koi skeleton painting. On Etsy I tried 'koi fish paintings', but didn't see it (only went 6 pages in). Maybe change your alt text to .....koi fish skeletons, since koi FISH seems to be a common search. Maybe be a bit more descriptive in your alt text?
All your crow paintings have the same description. You could try the 'original acrylic etc....' on the thumbnail and then vary the others.
For example:
painting, Curious Corvus, crow with marbles.
Crystal Corvus II – painting of black crow.
.....
Or: acrylic painting, "Spring Break" by Sandy Tweed
Make them all a bit different and see how it goes. :)

Sandra, if you were to use SCCP (the pro version) to sell your prints, google loves it for SEO purposes

It will use the image name , lots of my images appear in google images, and i think (cant confirm) the back links to my VSD homepages boost the page ranking there as well

Hey Paintbrush,

Thanks for the effort on checking out skelekoi image rankings. Unfortunately all the ones that showed were from my etsy store. That I show up at all is due to their expertise at SEO and their high volume traffic. I am wanting to optimize images on my own website as well. That's where I am working on tags, etc.

Viv,

I chose to use Etsy as my "shop" for now. 3ish% of a few sales is pretty small compared to the time to set up and maintain my own shop. I am also assuming that there is some benefit to tapping into their established customer base. Could be wrong.

I dont know much about Etsy, I trust it is nothing like the dreaded Ebay,
once in a while i list an odd item on Ebay, it sparks of a load of stupid questions, generally starting with "can i have it cheaper" often asking if 9ct gold is real or plated :(

I can honestly say though, 3 years of selling from my SCCP shop, i feel i get a better class of clients, its as though the ones who want cheap Cr.p go to Ebay, and the people who want quality avoid it like the plague.

Setting up a shop in things like Etsy and Ebay is much easier, and yes they have a client base, but if you can set your own shop up with SCCP and with the support you will get in the forum, in the long term it might be very worthwhile.

I know hosting charges seem to be the biggest issue, but if you dig deep, there are some excellent 5 year plans at less than £0.50p per week " sorry CC but for a small shop starting up it had to be said" though i a have a suspicion CC have something NEW in the pipeline SOON ;)

Theres a hint in my sig

Sandra I went and had a look at Etsy, seems to have changed since my last visit when in its early days.

So I thought i should give it a go and open a shop with a dozen items as a trial

I have to say, its much nicer to use than Ebay, certainly cheaper on fees, and theres no one selling the same products as me.

should be interesting :)
