In my experience I've had to add the code directly to the folder where the web site resides (ie- public_html or htmldocs or ?) Also I have found that if it is named as anything other than favicon.ico it will not work. If the file is there, try to move/copy it to just favicon.ico

I tried these exact directions. my favicon.ico won't upload to the root directory. What's wrong? I tried both using Windows Explorer FTP and Network Solutions ftp on their site.

Try using the Free FTP.

I added mine like Eric did. While on the index page, go to Edit > Edit Header and paste the favicon generator code in there. Then upload using VSD's built-in FTP.

I've never been able to use VSD's built-in FTP. I went through that a year or so ago...trying to figure that one out and never got it to work. Someone else mentioned I may not have permission to get the favicon into the root directory, so I should put it where my images are and then point to that. Now I just need THAT code.

So it worked. I just changed /favicon.ico to /files/favicon.ico!!! And I put the favicon in my files folder, obviously. :)
