It would be Case 2C. On the very first page, there is going to be one large image (like a splash page). Then when you get into the website, it will have a different image on the left and right sides, but the white box where all the other text and images will be.
This is the site - http://www.kimberlywalton.net/ but I am hesitant to make changes because its live and I don't want it to look distorted.

Make a copy of your page and work the bugs out on that one doing your testing.

I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

At the moment i am not seeing a splash page, more like a "if it doesn't do something soon i am going to fall asleep page"

If someone can tell you how this is done in VSD, that would probably be the easiest for you. If not, I'll tell you how I would do it, but I'm a coder, so my method will definitely include custom css and html.

Inger, get your custom code ready
VSD has the basic browser background and page background options, but that's it. What you insert for the background (beyond the page) will fill the viewport. There is no option to have 2 backgrounds - one on either side of the page. And there's no option for changing that background with each page. No matter how many pages you have, they all sit on top of that same background.
I'm curious about what it would take to do this. Would you position each background image - one top left and the other top right and somehow set them each at a width of 50%?

I'm not at home right now, so I'll look into this tomorrow.
It can be done in (at least) two ways, either with absolute positioned images or background images. The trick with two (or more) background images is that you place two (or more) divs inside each other with one background image each.
I'll write the code tomorrow, but you - and Eric - will have to get it into VSD, ok?
Mind you, if that longish image that Tara is intent on using, has some repeating pattern, one could make one wide image with the pattern appearing twice, in the desired distance from each other, and as wide as it takes to fill the viewport, and as high as one pattern, and then let it repeat-y. That would be possible in VSD, wouldn't it?

Maybe this might be the way to get it done... so width-wise it would look the same on even a very large/wide screen as it does on a smaller screen.
http://css-tricks.com/perfect-full-page … und-image/
Then there's no worry about what it looks like when it starts to repeat (in either direction).

Have you tried that in VSD, Paintbrush? I think there are css3 elements in the code. Does that work in VSD? I know html5 does not work, but...
If not, check out the site I helped Matt with, www.craigjuddpinstriping.net. In the header you find two divs on top of each other, one with the logo image, the other one with the small brush. That code can also be written for the whole page.
Further, there are examples of position absolute, especially on the left side, the 'flames' and those 'anti social' thingies.

I try to keep the artsy stuff to a minimum these days, more important that the site actually load no matter someone's connection speed. So I've never tried adding in a huge image as a background.
When adding outside code to VSD, you can add the styles right along with it. CSS followed by HTML right into the HTML box. I would think one could also go to Edit > Edit Header and link to a stylesheet (and whatever HTML5 shim, shiv, etc. might be needed).
In VSD, I'd be more inclined to put the effort into the actual pages and let the background play a supporting roll. But I'm always interested in new techniques – been dabbling with multiple backgrounds lately – but never tried to 'divide' the browser background so a different image displays on either side of the site. I'm curious now to see what Tara comes up with.
