I figured it out after all. It turns out that the menu buttons were finalized on one of the other pages which had only the plain powder blue background and then copied to the home page which has the boat image behind the buttons. Since the buttons themselves have a shadow effect, the effect was also copied and so overlayed the image.

By changing the shadow effect so that VSD can re-render the button in it's new position, it properly applied the effect and eliminated our problem.

The new problem is how to eliminate the momentary border around a button when it is clicked using FIREFOX only.

I see what you mean Mediaman, but I also still see the powder blue in both I.E. and FF. very confusing I must say.will keep trying different ideas.

I never noticed the border until I looked for it. I only did that because you mentioned it.

what I did notice though is that I have to hover over a button for a bit before it changes color, and in a few instances I had to actually wiggle my mouse to get it to notice and change. Nothing earth shattering but thought you might like to know.

My suggest is you can manage first your page with the help of css. Check your all measures. For this purpose you can use dream weaver. Than convert it in to coffee cup.
