I am very new to this, did a search but couldn't find the exact answer.

I have built our new sit in VSD (which I love by the way), uploaded no problems there. Would like to get it verified through my google webmanager account, there are 2 options one is to add a meta tag defined by google, which I know i can add in keywords but it doesn't match exactly what is required. The other is to add a HTML file to the homepage but I am struggling.

Try using the CoffeeCup Free FTP program and upload the html page that Google provides.

If that does not work, you will need to get the meta tag inserted. Have you tried using the html insert function. I haven't used VSD, but I have read posts that describe using the html insert. Just be sure to put the tag in the head section of the page.
