How to accomplish PDF link when...

I just downloaded VSD 15.

I put a newsletter on my website - 2 pages of 2 columns each - looks terrible! I used Word then PDF then Photoshop Elements.

I would like to change my published website and add a link (using a button) on my website to the PDF document. I have accomplished this using instructions I found on the forums and it works in the preview. I am pointing to a PDF file on my C drive. When I publish, what do I have to do put the PDF on the website online. Also, I will need to change it every month, do I just rebuild the PDF with the same name, and it overlays when I re-publish?

Am totally new, so could you please give me step by step instructions. Only used the publish function once, and am not really sure just what I did!?!

Thanks,
Camilla

When you create the link to the document in VSD on you pc, VSD will upload the file and change the link to point to your PDF being in the "docs" folder on your website. Unless you create a custom folder and add the pdf files to that folder. Then you'll have to create the links to the pdf files on your host knowing what the url's will end up being. The best thing to keep the document updated as changes occur is to open the file that vsd has created in the "Docs" folder in CoffeeCup software/visualsite designer/mywebsitesavedname_website/Docs. Do all your future changes on that file.

If I leave it linked to my PC, it would sure be easier to change it every month - but - I gather that it could not be found if my PC is turned off. True?

Once you upload you'll be all set. The next time you want to change the doc just open it from the location that I described then save it back to that location with the same name. Then republish your site and VSD should see that the file has change and upload the new version.:)

I've been using a snippet of code (use the HTML tool to add it) to display a PDF newsletter within a VSD page:

<object data="myfile.pdf" type="application/pdf" width="100%" height="100%">
</object>

I put the height/width in pixels to fit an area on the page. I've got a folder ('newsletters') in the site files where the PDFs get saved. To change them, I go to Edit > Delete files to remove the old one, then Edit > Add Files and click on the current newsletter. Then Object > Edit html and change the name of the PDF file.

OK. Another question. How do I put a link in my PDF document so my viewers can get back to the homepage. I do it with the "back" arrow, but I'm not sure all my viewers will know how to do this.

Again, thanks,
Camilla

Good info, but not willing to purchase Acrobat. Think I will just put a note on the top and bottom of the PDF that tells the viewer to click the back arrow!

Thanks again,
Camilla
