How can I? - Post ID 127758

I have a site that was created for me in Dreamweaver CS4. It is great but needs a lot of content editing. I wanted a 'non code' program to open the html pages and then change the words where necessary and then save the file...so all would still work. I don't plan to change links.

I thought Visual Designer would do that and d/l the trial and tried to open the index.php page or the html pages and it just gives me errors. It only looks for a .visual file that it's created I think.

I am not a coder, nor a programer but just want to change some content on pages.

Anybody got help for this? I already bought the HTML editor a couple years ago...that thing...along with most of the Coffeecup stuff is still complicated. Guess it's got to be to make killer webpages.

I guess if I can't fix it I'll just source it out to Odesk or somewhere and get it done almost as cheap as buying the software. Hey...if you can't open it and 'use' it...it's not FUN. sorry.

thoughts are welcome.

I don't think you will be able to edit the existing site using VSD. I believe you will need to edit your existing site using an html editor like the CoffeeCup HTML Editor. Once you learn how to edit the pages using the HTML Editor, it is fun. Give it another shot and save some money. Good luck. :)

Have you tried opening it in Visual mode in the HTML Editor?
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

If you don't want the Dreamweaver CS4 code to change, then don't edit the web page using the visual mode of the HTML Editor.

Bill. If you have a registered version of the CC HTML Editor, I suggest you download the most recent version to install and then make the following changes in your preferences in the application:

Open up the program in the code mode
Click on TOOLS in top bar
Go to PREFERENCES at bottom of dropdown list
In PREFERENCES choose the CUSTOMIZATION tab and open
In the left dropdown box select HTML/PHP DOCUMENTS
Click on the MODIFY HIGHLIGHTING button next to it
Under the ELEMENTS box select the DEFAULT TEXT*
On the right in FOREGROUND use the dropdown colour list to select a strong, bright colour eg.red
Over in TEXT ATTRIBUTES select BOLD
In the TEXT SIZE you can increase the size of your text to say 12 or 14
Confirm all your choices with OK and close the application.
Reopen and find one of your web pages to open up in the cc code editor.

You should now see all the default text highlighted in your chosen colour and easily distinguishable against the code. If you still see a confusion of other colours in the code. Just do the same process as above but for all the other elements (eg. javascript, html tags, comments etc.) whereas you coloured the default text in a bright colour, now change the highlights for all the other page content in the ELEMENTS box to a very pale grey. Do not make any of them bold or increase text size.

If nothing else this method will help you see what parts of the pages you can change or not, and slipping between preview and code you should be able to pick out the areas of text that you are seeing in the code.
