How can I edit my VSD html code for...

I have VSD 6 build 5 which I'm using for http://www.PlanetaryBillOfRights.org/ and I also have HTML Editor and have done a lot of work in that too, on my other site at http://www.coloradoprocessservers.net

But the site at http://www.PlanetaryBillOfRights.org/ was never made W3C compliant before and I want to do so now. But being it was designed in a previous version of VSD, it needs to be fixed up now.

BUT I need to be able to edit the raw HTML now, to make it compliant in W3C.

I tried opening the vnu file with HTML Editor but it just hung the program and had to be closed.

How can I edit the raw html and fix the site up for W3C???

In the editor, do not open the VNU file, that is used only by Visual Site Designer. Instead you edit the individual pages created by Visual Site Designer.

Just remember, any changes you make to these HTML pages will be lost when you resave your Website in Visual Site Designer.

If I'm not mistaken please let me know, but version 6 build 6 is suppose to validate am I correct? If so then IMO Melissa should update her version with no need to mess with the html . ok I'll shut up now lol

How will I be able to make it validate, and keep it validated then?

I thought all V 6 was supposed to, but someone said that it only does so if you do the site from scratch in V6, not if you used previous versions to design the site, which I did. Is that correct?

For the most part, it should work fine for any site saved in the latest version. If you added a lot of custom HTML or put non standard items in your header, W3C could flag those as potential issues.

Melissa,

Some things you can do in VSD. Find this line of text:
you must have a right to do so, and to live your life in peace, as long as you don?t infringe

Change it to have a correct contraction. It would appear that you copied that text from a word processor document.

Something you added to VSD that you need to remove is
<!--html inserted by user -->
<BODY

BGCOLOR="#000000" TEXT="#ffffff" LINK="#ffffff" VLINK="#ffffff" ALINK="#FF0000" >
<!--end of html inserted by user -->



I think that will fix most of your errors.

I'm confused by this Scott. If I open the html pages and edit them in HTML Editor 2009, then save them and close them, then go to VSD 6 and open the site, will the changes still be there? And why wouldnt they save then in VSD?

When you create a Website in Visual Site Designer, it uses an internal database to store all of your Website data in. This is what your VNU file is in. Now when you save, it does an export and generates all your HTML pages that you use to upload to your Website. If you make changes to the HTML, Visual Site Designer would not see these changes because it only looks at the VNU file.
