Homepage cannot be saved error - HELP...

We are aware that some of our users receive the error "The homepage cannot be saved." when working with their Website, but no matter what we try here, we are unable to replicate this problem. At first we thought it was a problem with the VNU file, so we had users send them to us, but we can open and save them without any problems. Then we thought it was the Save vs Save As functions, but still we cannot find any problems. Also tried all keyboard short-cut combination's....still works.

So basically we are stumped.

What I am offering here is a "bounty". The person who can help me replicate this issue here, I am offering complimentary copies of all software, graphics, themes, fonts and books that we sell. I will even throw in Shopping Cart Creator Pro when it is available this fall. Yeah, that's right ;)

So if you think you got what it takes to be the best software debugger on the planet, give it a try. You can reach me directly at scott@coffeecup.com if you have any questions or you think you have figured out the solution.

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this issue once and for all. I appreciate any and all help that can be provided. ;)

I can reproduce this error doing the following:

1. Put a "Read Only" attribute on the VNU file
2. Not enough disk space to write to the VNU file
3. Limit the rights in your working folder
4. Login as other user with less rights
5. The VNU file "hangs" as "in use" in a network.

I'm sure you all figured the above out already....

We have narrowed down the issue to a possibly corrupted text object. On one users Website there was a text object on the page with no content. We could not edit it in anyway. Once we deleted it, the error went away.

We are just not sure how that object got into the Website.

Scott,
I just replicated it doing just that... Added a small text block with no content. At first I got an "Image not found" and the option to use a solid color. Then when I tried to re-save it, it gave me the "cannot save homepage"

So who know why they had it, but that is the culprit in my opinion.

Can you give me the steps you took to do that? I still can't get that to reproduce. When I make a text block, if there are no characters, VSD will not allow it to be added.

I selected the text block from tools, added one to the footer section, re-sized it to minimal, then saved. After the save I clicked a few other blocks of text and re-saved, that is when it popped up with the error in question.

Hrmm, that is pretty much what I did. Could you make a video for me to watch the process and maybe send me your vnu file?

I will see what I can do (will definitely send the vnu file), about to step out for dinner with the better half so it might be awhile for a video.

I know, I'm not as dedicated as you ;)

E-mail on it's way to you now...

It seems that it has to do with the "naming" of the file as well... I tried multi-word with spaces in between and it works fine... A single word or no-space file name causes it to pop up with the error,

What, you get to go out to dinner!!! :)

Thanks for the files. The only problem is I was able to open both and save without any problems. Maybe the video will help when you have time.

Enjoy!

I tried Phil's way to and it didn't show an error, I'm suppose to be the unlucky one here lol.
