I do have a newer version with some more tweaks based on the feedback we have received since the last update. If anyone wants to test it out, drop me an e-mail.

Those who have it now, just re-download the software from the same link to access the latest build.

Hi Scott,

As far as I can see now, you've solved the problems I mentioned. Congratulations!

I do have a newer version with some more tweaks based on the feedback we have received since the last update. We just had to go a bit in a different direction to accommodate for the OS X browsers. If anyone wants to test it out, drop me an e-mail.

Also, take some time to look over this article we have written explaining why things work the way the do.

Thank you Scott!!

I just tried the beta version and it fixed all of my text problems. Wow...what a difference. I was getting so frustrated with the text issues. Now, they're gone.

Good work CoffeeCup!!!:)

Scott, I've recently downloaded your latest beta version ... and hit a new snag. It's not directly related to the font rendering, but since it affects the beta version, I thought I should mention it here.

When I try to assign a publishing destination to a new site, the program crashes. The window "Choose a publishing destination" opens; the status line at the bottom of that window changes to "Fetching list of publishing destinations"; there is a brief pause, then it crashes and the Windows "Problem encountered" message appears.

I've done the obvious things like restarting the machine and reloading the program. Not sure whether it's significant, but I have VSD loaded on a relatively old computer (4yrs) running XP, but the OS is all up to date.

I discussed this with the developers and this particular area of the program we do not have any debug logging happening, so we are going to add some additional logging to see what is going on.

What you can do as a test is this. We need to manually delete all your FTP profiles.

1. Close VSD
2. Go to Start > Run and type regedit
3. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CoffeeCup Software\Visual Site Designer\Settings and delete the Settings folder.
4. Restart VSD

Now give it a try again

Scott, thanks for your advice regarding the crashing issue. Deleting the registry folder has fixed it (at the relatively small price of 5 minutes re-entering the details of the various FTP servers).

However, I don't feel we're much further forward with the problem of unwanted line breaks when a page is viewed on some systems. It seems that things have got better on the Macs, but instead we have problems on some Windows PCs that we didn't have before. There is no pattern that I can discern: every software and hardware combination seems to give a different result. By way of illustration, I'm attaching two files. They show the same page, viewed using the same Browser (Chrome) and the same operating system (Windows XP), and both machines have the right font loaded. The only difference is that one machine is a laptop and the other is a PC with a big monitor, for which large fonts have been selected in the Windows View settings. In the VSD, the text box containing the words "Contact form" extends for almost the entire width of the page. So it should be wide enough to accommodate text 3 or 4 times as big without needing a line break, yet a break appears between "Contact" and "form" on the PC with the big monitor.

I have gone back to the "ordinary" version of the VSD pending resolution of these problems. I appreciate that you are doing your best. And I want to stick with CoffeeCup if at all possible (cost and pleasure of supporting a small entrepreneur like myself). However, this issue has serious implications for my willingness to stick with you, because even if I look at a site on 5 PCs and it's good on all of them, I can't be sure that it won't look a mess on number 6.
