I don't want to hijack your post, but I have been having the same problems with my website, and you are the first person I have found that seems to be having the same problem as me. I am not sure why almost none of my web pages have been indexed, I have submitted a site map as well as registering my website, the titles for all my products mesh with my keywords, and I don't think that I have anything that would look like spam to the crawlers. The only pages that seem to be indexed are the main pages like the categories and sub categories pages, but none of the individual product pages.

My website is www.lightbulbsandfixtures.com and at this point any thoughts, suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated because I have no idea what it is that I am doing right or wrong.

Couple of tips

Shopping cart creator pro is more google friendly than basic, as it has editable keywords etc., well worth the upgrade for a serious seller.

2, make a nice 5 page matching shop front with very detailed pages (lots of imfo) with Visual Site designer or html editor, both are again google friendly with editable keywords etc.

Just spotted a prime example:: your home page has a description of HOME in the brouser tab this should say something like "Premier US supplier of diachronic, halogen, florescent, L E D, display lighting for home or trade"

apart from above, it can take time, how long has your site been live ?

Your in a competitive market, thousands of similar sites to compete with, many who can afford to spend spend spend to get in top ten listings.

Dont be disheartened, but the more you put in the more you get out, every edit you do, every extra page or product gives you more chance of higher ranking

Keep up the good work, it will pay off in the long run.

There are two post from Ambassadors on this topic that contradict how keywords should be assigned. I'm confused....which is the correct approach?

7. Your meta tag keywords reads 'vw camper wedding, honeymoon campers, campervan rental, motorhome rental, camper van hire uk,vw camper van hire, camper van wedding, volkswagen camper van hire,vw camper hire, kombi hire,vw campers london, rent a campervan'. First of all it is way too long. It would read better 'VW camper hire, VW camper hire london, wedding vw camper hire, vw bus camper hire, vw camper, hire, london' If you want to use the word 'rent' you need to have this word in you text as well and add it to your titel, description tag and keywords as 'vw camper rental london'.

I wouldn't worry so much about the key words. It's the content that's going to get you noticed.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Conrad my being an ambassador does not mean i know what i am doing, like a large proportion of contributors i am no more than a novice.

I read a very strong article on keywords, in google itself, if i could find it again i would add a link, basically it stated " NEVER DUPLICATE KEYWORDS ", however it also states," except in the content of your page ", where to be honest if you can include each one 3 times, i personally have found that works for me !

NEVER DUPLICATE KEYWORDS:

Is true, but you can duplicate them in 3 word phrases, which I find the best, as example:

VW campers england, VW camper hire, VW camper sales .... you get the idea. :D

I found it best to keep it short, but sweet, and in 3 word phrases if possible, and must be in your text of the page you're adding the keywords to. Also agree with Eric - content.

Search engine algorithms are not fully known (especially Google, from what I've read), and they work differently, so a case of read up, and try different approaches if you're not getting anywhere. :)

That's all I know from what I've read anyway. And really nice site too! :)

If you have a Google Webmaster account for your site(s), take a look at 'Keywords' under 'Your Site on the Web'. You'll find that Google generates its own list of keywords based on the content of your site. This list is much more extensive, and presumably more relevant, than any list you may include in a <meta> tag. For one of my sites that I just checked, Google had a list of 200 keywords listed in order of 'significance'. This is not to say that you should not include a <meta> tag with the 10 to 20 keywords that are most significant to you. You probably should! ;)
But, ultimately, Google's own list, generated from its crawling, is probably the one that really counts.
Tom's suggestion is a good one: "Just ask Google!". Read the pdf guide that he provided a link to a couple of posts back...
