I use VSD to build and upload all my sites. My hosting service has recently changed there servers to require TLS when connecting to the FTP server to increase the security of the servers. Now ever time I try to upload my websites threw VSD it says "could not establish a connection" and when I test the connection im told: " Error invalid user name or password reported by server" now i can assure you i am 100% sure on my user names and passwords. Now my hosting service has sent everyone a e-mail saying that I will need to make changes to my FTP client in order to upload anything. Now can I no longer use VSD because it is not compatible with FTPeS???

VSD only works with FTP at this time. If your server requires you to now use SFTP, you will not be able to upload within VSD directly. Instead you will now need to use an FTP program to do the uploading. We have a free FTP program here at www.coffeecup.com/freestuff

Like Mr. Hatch, my websites are built on VSD and my hosting service now requires FTPeS. So what is the timeline for Virtual Site Designer to address this without using the free FTP program?

To be honest, I don't see it happening for quite some time. Integrating sFTP would require quite a bit of modifications to the core of the software. I do agree it would be nice.

That's too bad. You may have just killed a future sale. I recommended Coffeecup to a friend because it was so easy to use. The clincher is the lack of compatibility with FTP over TLS.

Change servers :P Seriously, there are a billion servers out there that "don't" make such silly requirements of us. Maybe at some future time it might be something that is the norm, but right now it's far from it.

Seriously? Dump the two year contract only to find that the next server is also increasing their security to require FTPeS and then you have the same issue with Virtual Site Designer. FTPeS prevents anything that might be listening to your connection from reading your username and password. The regular FTP passes the information across the connection in plain text. So if someone was hitting your connection, they could gain your username and password and hack your website. So is that the new "norm"?

Technically that is true, but they would have to be monitoring the connection and the precise point of authentication. So while it is plausible, it is not that probable. Just use very secure passwords and you are fine. I have at least 15 hosting accounts with all major providers and sFTP is only an option, not a requirement. I would never trust a provider that sets absolute restrictions like that.

Good news is that I can still use Coffeecup to build my websites. However another free FTP software was used to upload the files to the website. (Coffeecup Free FTP does not support servers that require FTPeS - FTP over explicit TLS/SSL. I know I tried every one of those options) The one-button convenience is gone but it's workable for now.
