FTP to Network Solutions not working...

Just purchased VSD and trying to use the upload feature. I have all the correct info, but it just wont even trigger when you hit test, or upload. Nothing happens. I also have Free FTP vs. 4.3 and just to make sure I had the correct FTP Server, User Name and Password, I tried it with that program and it works perfectly. No problem uploading the website.

So, what am I missing here? There's got to be something I have missed with the upload feature in VSD?

Thanks,

First it may pay to tick passive mode

If that does not work try turning of your firewall and see if that gets it working

If neither work i am sure someone else will have some other ideas let us know

I was trying if first with the trial version, but ordered the full version, thinking that was the issue. No luck. Tried with checking Passive mode and without Passive mode. Nothing. I even called Network Solutions folks in the Philippines, and they couldn't figure it out. Turned off the Norton firewall and anti-virus as well.

Everything is typed in, but nothing seems to trigger the progam to do anything. No trying to connect, no errors, nothing. As I said before, I can upload using Free ftp, but VSD's internal ftp upload does not function.

I am using Windows 7 with a 32 bit machine. The remote site is a small-Unix location, instead of the Network solutions Small-Windows site. Don't know if that makes a difference?

Have you tried SFTP protocol. I have had success with that on some providers when upload failed to happen or timed out and such. Might be worth a try.

In VSD I didn't see anything that provides the option for SFTP protocol. Any ideas or solutions are appreciated.

I have just thought of something. Everytime I open VSD I get a Windows User Account Control popup which says:

Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?
Program name: CoffeeCup Visual Site Designner
Verified Publisher: CoffeeCup Software
File origin:

File origin: Hard drive on this computer

It gives me the choice of Yes or No. When Yes is selected it takes me to VSD. Could this have something to do with the FTP in the program not working? Anyway, how do I stop this popup for this program?

Ooooops! Sorry. You're right. Had not looked at the VSD upload section in quite a while as I upload with a ftp program except for SCCP which does have SFTP settings, so made the much abused "assumption" that CC internal programs uploads were the same.

Your last two post regarding the popups brought to mind another program I had on my Vista machine required the first time to completely work correctly to select by right clicking and run as administrator. Only had to do that once. I have not upgraded to Windows 7 so do not really know if that exists or is even necessary with 7.

Hiya Tom B,

Unfortunately there is no way to "selectively" disable that popup per program (without some major setups via tasks etc. which didn't even work for me anyways lol). It's an all or nothing thing, and since I found out that there are vulnerabilities in IE anyways that allow attackers to get through and turn your settings off anyways, I've decided it's just not a useful part of the software and I turned my UAC settings completely off. Tired of them annoying windows that pop up for almost every program and no learning curve for that to learn what you use always and then set it not to pop up so it's useless to me.

That is not the case for many, and really it's just the annoyance for me that it drives me nuts to have to do that and it definitely does stop some things from starting up and running. But... if it's starting up VSD or any of your programs, it shouldn't interfere with the functions once it's running and working so I'm reluctant to think that it's the UAC messing up your FTP setups, but it could be.

Follow TomH's suggestion and set it to Run as Administrator and see if that solves the issue. If not, I would suggest you open a ticket with support as it could be your settings may not be fully correct for the FTP as sometimes we mess up one little line or dash or slash and not see it and they can help to make sure it's all setup correctly without you sharing private info here on the forums.

Good luck with it and let us know how it works out. When it's fixed please come post here and let us know how you fixed it for future users :)

P.S. To set as Run as Administrator:

Right click the shortcut you are using to start the program
Go to the Compatibility tab
At the bottom check the box for Run as Administrator
Click OK and it should be good to go.

Just a quick update. After receiving very personalized support from the Coffee Cup team, we figured out what was going on. When I went from Trial Version to a paid version, another copy downloaded and over wrote the trial version. Uploads did not work. I had to totally uninstall VSD, reboot and install a clean copy. Now the upload feature works.

Once I got the upload feature to work, I didn't realize I had to enter a profile name and save it. Only once I did that was I able to use the Test FTP feature. That was not clear.

It's really great to see such exceptional support from a software maker. Thanks CoffeeCup!!!
