FTP settings question - Post ID 131578

I built a site for an organization I belong to, but originally I used my personal webspace. That server allowed me to use VSD's internal upload command without a problem.

Now that I have migrated it to the organization's server, I am not able to connect and upload through VSD itself. I get this message:

421- Sorry, cleartext sessions not accepted by the server

I also had similar messages in DirectFTP and WAM, but both of those have other FTP options to use (I had to use Secure SFTP via SSH port 22 in order to make those programs work with the server.)

I am not, however, seeing anything like that option in VSD's FTP settings? Am I missing something? Or does VSD just not have that ability? (if not, it would be awesome if they did!)

I migrated the files to the new server before realizing this fix existed for DirectFTP, and I did it 12 files at a time using the server's uploader...so at least I'm happy that I have DirectFTP working now, as that will make life much easier in the future if that is what I have to use. But if there is a VSD workaround, that would make life even simpler :D

Unfortunately VSD does not support sFTP yet. It only allows uploads over FTP. If your hosting provider is requiring you to use sFTP, you would then have to upload manually with DirecFTP or another client.

Thanks for the quick answer Scott - is this something that will be available in VSD in the future?

Now that I have DirectFTP working, it's not as much of a problem...that's a LOT better than having to use the server's uploader.

Not too sure yet. It is on the wish list, but it may or may not make it to the to-do list. ;)

I always have to be signed into my server before VSD will upload. I normally go to the httpdocs folder, check the FTP settings to make sure I'm using the correct one, and the upload goes smoothly. I can tell you if you start an upload while using the wrong FTP setting the files become scrambled, sites will over run each other, and fixing it is time consuming.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
