I have a new website I'm trying to upload. When setting up the FTP setting, it says it can't use a number as the character. www.409southmainstreet.com is the site I'm trying to upload. Any suggestions?
I'm going to assume you are using DirectFTP by CC, or via your editor itself. The text file is empty to me so I don't know what that is supposed to have in it, can you put it in a code block here on the forums instead of an attachment?
That is caused by you entering in a number in the www folder as the first character. Remove the number and you will be all set.

So I should enter:
WWW folder: public_html/southmainstreet , right?
WWW folder: public_html/southmainstreet , right?
I changed it to that & uploaded it but it doesn't connect to the site I built. Am I supposed to "Add Files" or anything else? I don't remember having this trouble in uploading a new site before so I'm sure I'm not doing something right.
Hi Barb
you have two folders on your server, 409southmainstreet and SouthMainStreet.......so it would be /public_html/SouthMainStreet

public_html/southmainstreet is what I used. I thought maybe since I capped the first letters that that might be the problem. But it still doesn't work.
I should go into LP & delete the 409southmainstreet folder, right??
I'm using the VERY cool "Swirl and Splatter" template. When I try to hotlink an email addy or a link to go to a sister website, the type turns white & won't show up. I've even tried to change it to red to no avail.

Remember that many many almost too many hosts require Caps Sensitive names/addresses. So:
SouthMainStreet is not equal to southmainstreet
when you type a website address in your browser it doesn't matter, but for FTP it usually does.
same as graphic.JPG is not equal to graphic.jpg

In checking the account I do see that you have files uploaded to the /public_html/southmainstreet/ folder however in the Addon Domain screen you have the 409southmainstreet.com domain set up to use the 409southmainstreet folder. If you are going to use that southmainstreet folder you need to remove the 409southmainstreet.com domain from the Addon Domains screen and add it back using the southmainstreet folder in the "Username/directory/subdomain Name:" field. I hope this is helpful.

Now my question is, since the domain is 409southmainstreet.com, will it go to the right website since the domain & folder has different names? Seems like they should match or won't that matter?

the domain name and the folders have no need to be the same. When you sign up for a domain and you tell it what nameservers you are using, it will automatically pick up either a index.html or an index.php file as the home page for your particular domain when you upload them to your domain. I hope that makes sense, I'm trying to figure out how else to explain it easier.
I'll assume since you're using an FTP setup of some sort to upload files that you have access directly to your domain so that's half the battle right there. As long as you have an index.html or an index.php file in the main root directory being in most cases the:
/public_html/
it would be needing to be right inside that public_html location. Any folders you create other than that one, which is created automatically, are irrelevant as far as people reaching your site as they will be reached via links and menus.
Does that make sense? I sure hope so LOL I get wordy when I'm trying to make something clear lol
