I have used VSD software for about a year. I have created and revised 3 different sites. Almost all of the time, I have considerable difficulty in getting the site to upload successfully. It sometimes takes me hours to make a simple change to the site. I have tried using the internal ftp in VSD, the new and improved CoffeeCup FTP program, and some of the free FTP programs available. I have tried passive mode. Note I can and do connect to the web hosting server. The error message I get is usually half-way through the upload. I have even used the VSD program on different computers with no success. I have also tried to delete the entire website from the server, then upload the files again. No Luck! Please could someone give me any ideas on what I may be doing wrong? When the software works,it's great. I'm just tired of having to plan to work for hours when I need to make a simple change to the site that should take 10-15 minutes.
Last night I got the majority of the site to upload correctly. This morning I made one small change to one page ( deleted a picture and moved 3 links to another part of the page). Now that page and others are not viewable. Please help me find out why I am experiencing these problem.

If you are having that many issues uploading with our software and others, something else is probably going on. I would suggest opening a support ticket with us and we will see if we can help. Please try to be very specific to what is going on and if you can provide the answers to the questions Bruzer asked , it will really help.

Thanks for responding so quickly. I presently am using the very latest version of VSD, having just downloaded it last week. I have the program installed on an IBM Thinkpad laptop running Windows XP service pack 2. I have installed Internet Explorer 8 and the latest Firefox browsers. I use both, but rely on Internet Explorer the most. The web hosting service that we have been using for about 4 years is Startlogic. I have called them to verify any problems that might exist at their end, and they have assured me that everything should work. We have always been satisfied with the service they render. The website is "www.hoodcompany.com". It is a pretty simple sight without a lot of frills, but when it works, it does the job intended.
I want to be perfectly clear. I really enjoy the software. I probably have 7 or 8 of the CoffeeCup programs and have used most of them from time to time and never experienced a problem with uploading the files using the built-in ftp client software. The issue is confined to the VSD program and my ability to upload files. The preview window shows me the layout that I have created. If I am satisfied with the look and workability I return to the program, save the work, and press upload. The message that appears is UPLOADING ERROR. In smaller print inside a pop-up box the message "an error occurred while uploading". No options are available except to press OK. At that point I am left with the option of trying the process all over again. The problem has been intermittent, but lately it occurs almost every time I make a change to the site. For instance, last Saturday morning, I got the complete site uploaded without a hitch. Later that day, I noticed a couple of links that weren't directed to the proper page, so I made the changes, saved the work, and tried to upload the changes. It took me 2 days of work to get part of the site up and running again. During that time I completely removed all of the files from the host server, deleted and re-downloaded the CoffeeCup VSD program, and redesigned the website. After working most of Tuesday, I had about half of the pages redesigned, so I uploaded them with success. I made some additional changes and during that time period had no difficulty at all. This morning I decided to delete a photo image and rearrange three links on one page and I have not had the site up and working since. I have tried approximately 20 times to upload the site, always getting the error message at some point during the upload. Some of these attempts lasted 20-25 minutes, others 5 minutes or less before displaying the errror message. Again, I hopes this answers the questions above, and someone might be able to figure out the problem. Thanks again.
Go figure! While writing this diatribe about all of the trouble I have been having, I have been attempting to upload the site. Guess what. On the sixth attempt, it uploaded successfully. But I would still appreciate any ideas from the troops out there. The problem still exists I'm sure. Also I'm afraid to add or change anything, and I still have approximately 25 pages to create and upload.

I had many of the same "quirky" upload issues and started shutting down other software on my system to see if any of it was contributing to the problem. I found that my Firewall software (ZoneAlarm) didn't play nicely with VSD -

I shut it down and my uploads go flawlessly..

(Just a suggestion..)

Thanks David for the input. I am using the Windows Firewall. I have tried to upload files after disabling the firewall to no avail. I also shutdown my antivirus software (Avast) as well. That didn't help either. But your suggestion leads me to believe there might be other programs on my laptop that might interfere with the process. The work goes on.
