Embedding an external blog? - Post ID...

Hi folks!

I want to embed an external blog into my VSD website.

The idea is to enable third parties to access their blog (only) and update it, and for their updates to appear seemlessly in my website (which they can't update). I've already done this with Google Calendar and it works well (http://www.matrixlloyd.com/theCalendar.html).

Can this be done? Any thoughts as to which blogging service to use?

Many thanks.

Do you have an SDrive account? If so, you could embed a Stream on your site. You can let others be contributors to it, but you would have access to the actual blog (in case of emergency ;)).
The Stream "lives" on the SDrive Dashboard, but entries can be made by email from anywhere. You can also customize a theme so it matches your site and some themes allow for reader comments to be posted.

And if they want to spend just a little bit (and take advantage of the 25% discount that is going on for the next 3 days) they can get Power Post which gives your contributors to S-Drive Streams a lot more versatility and control of how things look that get posted. Pretty slick litle program and cheap too and with the Egg Hunt Discount going on you can get it pretty cheap right now.

Email works fine for posting, don't get me wrong, just saying that the Power Post program adds a lot more control to how things are posted (how you can lay out images, text styles etc.). Pretty powerful little program.

I forgot about the egg hunt deal – didn't think it would still be going on

I really like Power Post. It's nice having the photo editing options too, so everything can get done in one place. It's also got a preview so you can make sure everything looks good before 'going live'.

Thanks very much for that.

The site will just use an ordinary www.example.com address, rather than using the S-Drive....

A but here's the cool thing about the S-Drive setup Benjamin, you can use the free S-Drive Stream that comes with your account (or your clients can create an account also) and you can use the Stream to embed into your site hosted elsewhere. You can see a semblance of what I mean by checking the Cattown Rescue site in my signature. Don't pay attention to the actual blog itself as it's just a work in progress yet for the actual posts lol, the site isn't totally live yet so no real comments in there yet. But it should show you that it can be iframed into an existing site hosted elsewhere pretty easily.

With the really low cost of Power Post to start with, and the 25% Easter coupon that was emailed to us (or posted on the forums, I forget lol) this is a really cheap way to make some really great powerfully slick looking posts to your blog. This can be done to the S-Drive Stream and then if iframed to your site it will update it instantly to your site!

How cool is that!?

As Jo Ann said, if it's embedded on your site, readers will find it at your-site.com/blog (or whatever you call it).
Shameless promo, but it's an example of an embedded full-page theme with comments allowed:

Notice the address? ;)

On Jo Ann's site, she's using it for news and events. Some others use it to display photos or artwork.
The really nice thing is that no one needs to have access to your site or FTP info, so there's no chance of anything getting messed up :D

Can a WordPress blog be embedded, too?

I believe so, but not sure how that works, don't know if it can be resized etc. like the Stream on S-Drive can, but I haven't tried it at all to do that. Used Wordpress a while ago, but it's so bloated for just a blog situation. Works really nice if you plan to use it as your main website, but it's so much hassle and work just to set up a blog that I haven't bothered with it in a while now.

Someone else here may use it and have ideas on how that works though and what can be done.

Agree – It's over-kill for just a blog. It seems to have grown from a blogging program to a CMS with everything but the kitchen sink thrown in. Anyway...
You could try putting it in an IFrame on your site, or tweak a theme to make it match your site and link to it.

As for others posting to it... from the WP site:
Multiple authors — WordPress’ highly advanced user system allows up to 10 levels of users, with different levels having different (and configurable) privileges with regard to publishing, editing, options, and other users.
