Educating myself about IMG files... -...

As far as I can tell, these IMG files get created for the boxes you draw and the buttons you create, but your own images retain their original file name when you "build/save" and the images (if necessary) are copied into the "files" subfolder.

Questions:
    1. Do the IMG's get renumbered every time there is a build/save? If so, it seems this would require that you upload every image in the "files" subfolder whenever you make a change involving VSD images.

    2. Does VSD clean up after itself and remove unused IMG files from the "files" subfolder on the PC?

    3. Does it make sense to occasionally delete all the files on the server in the "files" subfolder and then upload the latest contents of the "files" subfolder on the PC?

    4. Are my assumptions about IMG files correct?

thanks for any advice!

John,
from what I could see was if you use any styles or add let's say a rounded corner to an image, the in the files folder where the images are kept, you'll have the original square image and the rounded image. so that's 2 right there. If you have the same image on all your page, then the first will have the original image name and then VSD will name the rest, something like IMG_0 to whatever. I won't or shouldn't duplicate anymore after that but will when you make any changes to an image. Basically when your editing VSD and it's saved it knows if an image has been tampered with and will add the new image in the files folder, and when you upload , VSD will go thru all your pages , which makes it seem like it's uploading the whole site again ( but it's not) and then when it finds the changed image it will only upload that to the files folder. If I understand it correctly.lol

John if you remove something in VSD like for example an image, that image is still going to be in your website folder on your computer, let's say you want to remove a gallery which is totally different, you would delete the html box off the page (if using Photo Gallery by CC) then save it, Now it won't remove them from your website folder , you'll have to do that manually, but also you'll need to go to settings>remove files and remove the files used for that gallery. Same as on the server.

3. Does it make sense to occasionally delete all the files on the server in the "files" subfolder and then upload the latest contents of the "files" subfolder on the PC?

Well With the older versions it made more sense, but with this version now, you can pretty much leave it alone unless you have deleted alot of items from your site. IMO.

MANY thanks, I think the lights are finally coming on and now the "Help" PDF makes more and more sense. (I can't think of a more helpful forum for software questions & answers! http://www.bellmatics.com/4006_photos/thumbsuponly.gif )
