Educating myself about file...

Finally getting up to speed and quite pleased with VSD. A question about file locations:
When you create a "button" it appears to go into \sitename\files\xxx.jpg by default. Also, when you insert a photo from a specific folder it, too, seems to be copied into \sitename\files\xxx.jpg. Is that just how VSD works or can it be customized so it goes into a user specified folder?

Thanks in advance!

Hi John,
that is the file structure of VSd, all images into the "files" folder, and when you link to a document those go into the "Downloads" folder, all html pages are together on the server.:)

I've been using Publisher for years for my website but decided to give CoffeeCup a try. I'm really proud of the website www.obcevansville.com but now, when I want to edit it, it has disapeared from my desktop. I can still see all of the frames on my backup but no vnu file exists. Can I copy the html from my website online and rebuild from there or is there an easier way? I can't imagine what happened. I've had it online for over a week and edited it several times before with no problems. I still have the item "file" with all of the forms I made, etc. on my desktop in the same folder I used to save the website but when I pull up the file I saved the website in, it shows a blank page.

What you can check is on your Website, there is a folder called Backups, check that folder to see if you have any VNU files there. If you do, download the latest one and open that.

Scott:

I'm sorry to be so dumb, but can you give me the steps to follow? Do you mean my website on the web? I can download my website in your Editor program. Is there any way to convert it to a .vnu file so I can open in Visual? I tried Coffee Cup several years ago but I must have tried the Editor version because the Visual is so easy I am amazed! I've been trying trial WYSIWYG for almost 2 years and finally gave up and stuck to Publisher because I could understand the page structure and how to insert text, etc. Your Visual is made for newbies like me. Can I bundle Visual, Forms Builder and the password program?

Use any FTP program and connect to your Website. Go to the folder where your Website files are and look for a folder called "Backups". In that folder you will find various VNU backups. Download the most current one and open that in VSD.

There is now way to convert a file to vnu. If you loose that, your Website is basically gone and you will have to re-create it in VSD. That file is extremely important to keep backed up.

You need to have Flash installed. Go to www.adobe.com and install the free Flash player.
