Duplicate entire site?
Hi all, is it possible to duplicate an entire site? I have a friend who wants three almost identical sites, is it possible?
Dear Janet,
Can you say more about what you & friend want to achieve? Rather than actually duplicate, you might find it possible (and advisable) to make just one site that appears three slightly different ways. That way, any future change you might make would appear in all three apparent sites.
Of course you can also simply copy the files related to one site to an entirely different one. You have to remember to keep them in sync thereafter.
So the simple answer is .... it depends.

You sure can. Take the site you want to dup. and save it under a new name and change the ftp setting to the new domain and your good to go.

I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Great, thanks Eric!
The lady has a turf laying business, and bought three different domain names, each relating to three different areas, she wants the same site, three times, with just the name of the area covered changing.
Thanks all!

By area do you mean location ?
if so why not have one site, use all three domains as PARKED domains so they all appear identical.
Then have a page within the website key worded specifically to that location, and a url extension to suit (IE) domainname/rickmansworth & domainname/watford & domainname/hertfordshire
google will like that

That's a good Idea Viv. I have that for my Moms campground. Two domains and one's parked with forwarding.

Hi all, I've created the three sites (that's what the lady wanted!), but am having problems with one button. The button the left, Turf Measurement Guide, will not link to the .pdf that I want on this site wrexhamturf.co.uk
However, on the original site it was copied from, it does flintshireturf.co.uk I've added the file, I've removed the file, I've re-added it, I've copied direct in an ftp program, does anyone know what's going wrong here?

If it is a separate domain name it will have a different absolute link name related to the different domain name. If it is a relative link it will not matter because the same links with the different absolute path names will have the same relative path names. If it is not linking in the other it must have the absolute part of the path in the link If you change that to the correct absolute path then the link would work
But it would seem to me that if the link had the wrong absolute part of the path in it it should still link to the other seeing as it is up and working on the www. sounds like you are doing it in preview perhaps in preview it does not have access to links not in its containing folder
If you copied it and pasted it sounds like you need to change the domain name absolute path name part of the link which will be different it the two versions

Make sure you don't link to the pdf inside your actual VSD mywebsitename_website folder/files or any thing similar. Keep a dedicated folder just outside the mywebsitename_website folder to keep all your files so when linking VSD doesn't get confused.
