I’m using VSD 5.9.4 to add pages to an existing site. The first Page Title is: New Ideas and the Page ID is: newideas. How can I get this first page I made in VSD to upload as newideas.html instead of index.html?

Do you already have a file on your site for index.html? If not, is there a particular reason you don't want that file? That is commonly used as a default for web-sites, ie: someone enters your addy as www.yoursite.com and nothing else, the server will show them index.html automatically (there is a list of default files that the server looks for and if any are found it will serve them up, including index.php, index.html, etc...) If you don't have a file from your server's default list, I'm not sure that viewers would be served up your page if they only type in the generic web addy (www.yoursite.com). Most likely you'd be forcing viewers to type in www.yoursite.com/newideas.html which may be fine (if all of your anticipated viewers expect this). But what happens to those who don't know this? They'd be left in the dark.

Yes there is already an index file on the site.

I don't believe there's a way to prevent the home page from being saved as index.html in VSD. If I'm wrong, someone please step in and correct me. In your situation the best bet is probably to rename the index.html to something else then use a regular FTP client to upload the pages you want.

VSD was made as an easy-to-use solution for people with pretty basic web needs. Custom situations like yours are a little out of its scope, but with just a little finagling you can make it work.

Create a folder for your new ideas page, and then you can provide a link from your current index to http://www.yoursite/new_ideas/ which will display that in the URLand load the index.html file located in the new_ideas folder.

Thanks for all the suggestions, Spinny’s idea seems to be the best for me to use at present.
