When I click on the "add html" icon should the "insert html" box automatically pop up or do you have to click on the web page for the "insert html" box to show?
Thanks,

On mine a note box appears first and has a selection box to keep it from appearing again. I leave it on because I need to be reminded then I click that box off and click mouse on the pg and then the insert html window box opens up. I recently added favicon html snippet code on every pg with the add html tool and did not fill in the object name because I did not want anything other than the favicon to appear and it works so you can if need be insert html snippets without filling in the object name

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I don't know why but I thought the html box used to pop up without having to click on the page. I must be going crazy.

Thank you for your help. I am trying to understand the part of your answer related to favicon html snippet code. When would one use this technique? In other words, why would you not want to show the object name?
Thanks,
yeto
yeto – I didn't understand that either, since the name only shows on the html place-holder box in VSD. This can be useful if you have more than one html/flash item on a page.
Of course, for favicons, there's no box on the page, so it doesn't matter if it's named.
Maybe the object names show on live pages if the object itself doesn't show? So if someone didn't have Flash, they might see "Contact Form" instead of a blank space (if there was a Flash form on the page).

The object name shows up on the pg for instance in the form of a link title I used the html snippet thingy to put in my swf slide shows and the object name is the link titles and shows up on the pg as a link. In the instance of the favicon it is desirable to have the favicon appear in its place and not to have a label appearing on the pg saying something about it. The main point I was making though is that it will work even if there is no name entered. Every time I had used it in the past the name had appeared on the pg as a link so I was under the impression that that is how the object named worked in the snippet function. So when I was entering the favicon html snippet I on purpose left the object name blank because I did not want any text on the pg just hanging there out of place referring to the favicon.

For future reference, in order for your favicon to appear there is no need to put any html on any of your website pages at all
you just upload the favico.ico with ftp to your server route directory, replacing the one that is already in place usually provided by your hosting company, which inturn replaces the default favicon with your one.

I feel the need to comment further on the favicon issue. I used the CC favicon application to make a favicon. Favicon in hand I commenced to trying and get it up on the site. I was searching all through files on the server for my site looking for the favicon. Found nothing relating to it anywhere. Uploaded the favico.ico file to multiple places on the server in hopes of it appearing some day within up to 4 weeks. Called customer service about the favicon issue. I relayed my concerns about the favicon to the customer service representative. He had me hold while he discussed or looked up information on the matter. When dialog continued he informed me that the Netfirms servers do not use the .ico file format and that it had to be jpeg and that an SEO customer representative would call me back. After a couple of hours I had not been called back by an SEO service representative so I commenced on the solitary endeavor of solving the favicon problem. I did a search on the CC forums for favicon and found several entries on the matter, mainly the one with the html snippet for getting the favicon up and working. I tried that and no joy the favicon was not appearing. I did a screen shot of the favicon and saved it as a jpeg and uploaded that image to the same places as I had earlier uploaded the favicon.ico images. I changed the html snippet to the jpeg file from the .ico file. Then the favicon appeared on that pg and non of the others which at the time was the home pg. So then I need to enter it on all pgs of the site.
In my case I would have waited for 4 weeks for the favicon to show up and then would have probably go through the process here within discussed. So I had the favicons up on the site the day that I wanted them. And I believe sincerely that the html snippets were required.
Now I will put on my armor for the impending tumultuous fallout from this reply...
