Direct FTP 6.5.5 Won't Start - Some...

I purchased Direct FTP a few years ago but then I went to the bright side (Apple) and now I'm taking a peek back to the dark side as I'm learning Windows Programming.

I remembered how sweet this little app was so I downloaded it, installed it and checked the "start Direct FTP on Finish" button and clicked Finish... POW! "Child killed!" - Is it just me or are the errors getting more and more morbit every day?

This error is only displayed during first run. After I try opening it myself (from the desktop, the start menu, the program files folder) nothing will happen. The only thing that confirms that the computer is doing something is a single sharp spike in the CPU usage seen in the Task Manager. I tried installing twice (first for all users and then for only the current user) and I also tried restarting without any luck.

This computer is freshly formated with the latest version of XP installed and fully up to date.

I've searched the forums for this error and found many posts, but most I've checked were unresolved issues from ancient versions and occurred when saving/uploading.

What could be causing this?

Oh, here's a screenshot of the same error that popped up as I tried installing Free FTP instead

Alliat,

You should upgrade to the most recent version and see if that fixes your problem.

As far as I can see version 6.5.5 is the latest unless a newer version was released a few hours ago. Both the Direct FTP and the Free FTP programs were downloaded from this website yesterday. According to the Direct FTP download page the 6.5.5 is the most recent version and was released on the ninth of july, 2008.

I would suggest uninstalling all version of the software, reboot and then manually make sure no files are left in the c:\program files\coffeecup software\coffeecup directftp folder

Then re-install the software.

My bad, I was thinking about the VSD upgrade that has been released. :(

I've just purchased Direct FTP 6.6 and am getting the same problem. It appears to have installed without problems but will not run. Double lick to run and immediately get this same error message.

Guys,
usure if it is related but I was getting that same error in VSD6 until I alteed my DEP settings...
SYSTEM PROPERTIES > ADVANCED > PERFORMANCE > SETTINGS > DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION

Mine was on the lower of the two settings. By choosing the top setting all works again.

As I said, not sure if it is related but the error message your getting is the same as was getting.

I am getting the same error message. I was told to intall and run CCleaner a registry cleaner and also to delete the folder from program files and reinstall. I did all this but still have the problem.

Dennis,

Did you delete the folder, or un-install the program?

You should un-install the program to get registry entries removed. Then reboot.

Then when your computer is restarted, download a fresh copy of the program and install that.

If that does not fix the problem, you need to open a support ticket with CoffeeCup.
