Different link colors - Post ID 146566

Hi there,

I know that we are not supposed to use different or non-standard text link colors (an article froom 2006 in your archive about that) - but: I use text links in a menu bar that has a dark background (so text needs to be white), and then I have the normal text links later on.

The "Link Properties" does not allow for any colouring individual links - can that be done?

Best regards from way-up-north and far-away (Norway, Europe)

Hi Rune,
What I've done to get around this:
1. Use the advanced text option for the link text, then use the fill tool to color it
2. Use the shape tool to draw a rectangle the same color as the background, then use the button text and make that whatever color I want (check out the Buttonizer in VSD7)
3. Make my text links in a graphics program and save as PNG files (with transparent backgrounds) so they look like text over a patterned or textured background.
OR... You could use one of the above methods for your main menu and set the link colors to match your body text.
Use the Alt Text feature (in the Object box) so your links can still be read by search bots and screen readers.

Some people have found a glitch in VSD7 when linking text within a paragraph, but a new version is being tested now that should take care of this (and a few other issues).

Hi there,

I find that the "buttonize" option works the best - 1) first drawing a rectangle shape, 2) "buttonize" it with text and text colour, 3) using "effects" to remove 3d-type shadows and set the button background colour same as the web page background. So then it's really a button that looks as text. Thanks for that tip!

The importing of a picture also works, but then the font tends to be somewhat different (at least with me) and so the web page looks a bit amateurish. I could of course also use pictures for the menu and then be free to use normal text links in the body text. But again, importing pictures of text/letters to simulate normal text is both a bit cumbersome and can also produce letters that look somewhat odd.

You Coffeecup people - how'bout making us able to set the text link font colour?

That's a good tip for the Buttonizer - to make links that don't look like buttons. Thanks for passing that on!
