Open up a support ticket, James. As far as I know, the two others have got some beta file to check if their problems are solved through it, so maybe you can have the same file.

Oh, I see there is a new version out since yesterday, is that the one you are using?

Ernest,

Check out the thread "Project did not save correctly." The problem you're reporting appears to be the same issue. CoffeeCup seems to be aware of it - and they have developed a beta version with the fix for this. However, I'm not sure if they're aware of how much this is affecting the user community.

For me, I'm avoiding the "Save" function and using "Save As" (i.e. I'm creating a new file name) every time I save. This seems to work but is a temporary workaround I hope.

I just had the same problem. The vnu file just disappeared on me. It's not there. The files are however. All my pages are there in HTML format and the images are there as well. The issue is how do I reinstate those pages back into the VSD?

If I cant, who do I send my invoice to at Coffee Cup for the hours of wasted time?

This issue was fixed in the version launched some 2 weeks ago. Have you got the most recent version?

If the problem is still there, you'll have to contact CoffeeCup support.

Just a thought; Since the problem was that the vnu file was saved without a file extension, what if you did a search for it, using the name you gave your project (the name of the files folder will probably be the same), and if you find something by that name, try renaming it with the correct file extension. I have not tried this, but maybe...

I did try that with a file I found of the same name but it reverted back to a previous version some 10 revisions previous. I'm at the frustrated and cursing stage now. I will try the new version I guess but I'm not sure how it will go. I have logged a support ticket..

The frustrating thing is the files are all there. I can view the HTML files in a browser, but for the life of me I cant get them to view in the VSD.

Any good news I will post.

The answer to the problem for me seems to be there is no answer to this problem. The answer I received was of similar quality to the YouTube video walkthroughs, if you get my drift. What I am left with after all my tinkering is some html files of my creation and that's it.

Advice required. As I am a novice at this (thus to the use of the VSD and not something more robust) what can I do to continue to use those html files that are sitting there completed? I dont like to see hours of work go down the drain,

Thanks.

Hi Glenn

This issue should have been definitely corrected in the last update. The best way to manually correct this problem is this:

Option 1:
1. Close VSD
2. Locate the VNU file on your computer. You should then also see a file named the same name but with no extension. Click on that file, add the extension .VNU
3. Open that new VNU file inside of VSD and your Website will be back to normal.

Now if that did not work, please try Option 2.

Option 2
1. If you have already uploaded your Website and it looks perfect online, manually FTP into your server with any FTP program (try CoffeeCup Free FTP if you do not have one) and go into the "Backups" folder and you will find time/date stamped versions of your VNU file.
2. Download the appropriate one you would like to use.
3. Open that VNU file inside of VSD.

Now if either of these issues still do not resolve the problem, call our office first thing tomorrow at 678-495-3480 and one of our techs can remotely connect to your computer and figure out the cause of the problem.

Scott,

Thanks for the reply. I'm running 6..06 or build 6.

1. There is no vnu file. The file with no extension when added with a .vnu opened an older version of my site.

2. This occurred at the time I was preparing to upload.

I will call your office and see what they can do.

Thanks
Glenn

Glenn,

It is likely that you have Windows set to not show extensions. If you save a VSD file, you will have a file that should be yournamedfile.vnu, and a folder named yournamedfile_files. What happened is the VSD saved the "vnu" file without the extension. If you use windows explorer, and tell windows to show all extensions, you should find a file named yournamedfile without an extension. Rename that file and just add the .vnu extension.

That should solve your problem.

If you upload changes before you close VSD, the latest .vnu file will be on your website, and you can download it.

Bill,

No thats not the case. There is no vnu file for my latest build, it's as simple as that. I have spoken to support. Basically I have to start over or use HTML Editor to proceed ...pain!

Anyway, just so you know this is how to do it using build 6 of version 6.

Make sure you have a backup of your vnu. Dont try this at home kiddies.

Preview your site in your chosen browser. I had IE open and the preview showed in a tabbed browser window.

Forget that you have your preview open in IE and go back to VSD and try to save your work using Save As.

VSD will error saying it cant save your file ...it might have said something else I cant recall.

Close your work in anycase because you assume that your file is still there.

Try to reopen your VNU file and realise its not there.

In hindsight - had I performed a search I would have found my vnu in "recent files" and could have possibly recovered it. Instead I went to forums then found the file without the extension, added the extension, opened it to find it was a much earlier revision. Game over.

Onwards and upwards as they say ... bugger!

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
