SITUATION: I tried to create a copy of my DeskTop VSD application to a thumb drive so I could use it as a portable presentation instead of PowerPoint. (something like Uploading to a server) But after saving with a new name to the Thumb Drive, I ended up with a lot of link problems so I restablished (copied files) from the orginial file folder and then reset the links.
Worked fine for awhile as I cleaned up the pages. Then after trying it on the thumb, and also using my orginial version on the C: drive I had link problems on the thumb again. Only this time I could'nt reconnect them.
SOLUTION: I deleted (renamed) the vsd_tmpdir files. Renamed the folder for my orginal application on my C:\. Then went to my thumb drive and exec'd VSD, brought up and resaved my application there. Link problems all gone! I can live without my orginal version on the C: DeskTop. So I don't intend to use it again . . . don't want to deal with the frustration of all the relinking, renaming, etc.
THOUGHT: If there is only (apparently) one vsd_tmpdir per computer, and each renamed version creates new vsd_tmpdir files. Then as the desk top version is used and saved a new set of vsd_tmpdir files are created . . . thus messing up the links for the next use of the other version on the thumb. And, is there the possibility that in the process the orginal version induces the old link data into the new application. I could swear that I saw paths back to the C: version after knowing that I had already reconnected them in a previous save to the Thumb G:drive.
If this really is the case, then it would be nice if VSD would allow for multiple versions of the tmp files on the same computer to coincide with multiple application versions.
Go figure! It works now and I don't intend to mess with it anymore. . . . B
