Create a Link that opens a new window...

There are some links in my website I wish just opened in a new window or tab(i.e., pictures, or links to another site), but whenever I click on the links it transfers me straight to the site linked and in order to go back to my website you would have to click Back so many times. How can I just make these links open a new window or tab in VSD 5.9.4?

Are you talking about when you are creating the pages, locally on your machine, or after they have been uploaded to the web and you are viewing the site with a browser?

I'm on a Linux system at the moment and can't expain anything about VSD in detail, but I'll alert someone to your problem.

I am going to assume you are talking about a published page that is uploaded to your server.

A link has four options for opening pages.

_blank
_parent
_self
_top

If you insert this code into your url link: 'target ="_blank"', then the linked page will open in a new window.

Example:
<a href="http://www.coffeecup.com" target="_blank">CoffeeCup </a>

Why not make this an option--at the click of a button--in VSD 6.0?

When you are in the "link window"
After you have added your link, in the http box or document box, etc at the bottom of this window is a drop down menu "target" that lists options of how you want the link to act, ie: stay in the window your in "default" and others, I always choose "new window". This opens a new window or tab and leaves the original window alone.
Hope this helps

I am using VSD 5.9.4 and have a similar issue. When I add a link to a page for an external link the "target" drop down lets me change to "new window" but after selecting it, it reverts to default.

any thoughts?

Adam, be sure to check 'link' before changing your target or it will just switch back to default.

There is also the "use link" box to check.
I have to actually click in this box twice for the check mark to stay.
Not sure why, but after the second click it's good to go.
