Choosing colors

I'm just starting to put together a website for my new home based business.
I've asked a couple of friends to have a look at the site (such as it is) for some constructive criticism.
They've said that the green I've used in my logo appears very washed out.
Its supposed to appear as an "acid" green, sort of a light chartreuse.
On my monitors, which are calibrated, the colours are correct.
Is there a reliable way to spec (within reason) what visitors to my site will see?
Its important to me to keep the colour as consistant as possible between the website, letterhead, business cards and vehicle graphics as possible.
Thanks if you can assist! - Boyd

Here is an article "about" colorizing the web. It helped me understand the same thing your questioning.
